3510i handsfree not supported

I have a nokia 3510i with v4.01 sw but when hands free is attached message say accessory not supported but it works on other identical phones . Is a sw update needed.

I have a 3510i with V 04.01 (V 04.44 has bugs)
When I connected my handsfree headset (Mine is not the Nokia HDB-5 or HDC-5, but is a Far Eastern one) to my phone for the first time, like magic, it opened up the "Accessory settings" and showed me "Headset" and "Loopset".

When I connected my car handsfree adaptor (not the Nokia PPH-1) it added "Handsfree" to the list. I'm pleased to say they work!

I wonder if you have a bad, non-compatible, handsfree unit?
You claim you tried it with another phone? I tried mine with my wife's 3310 and that works fine as well.

Perhaps it is the connections?

Just a thought?
