Hey I just had the same thing happen last week. (As an aside I note that the guy at Orange whose network I am on said it is a common problem to this phone).

I had my ringer replaced for free as it's under the year warranty. They simply check your IMEA (serial) number for that info. I dropped it off saturday and got it back this afternoon (monday).

The scam of the century is that Nokia charges you 75p a minute to find out where their authorized dealers are if you aren't a member of "Club Nokia" (which is basically their data mining facility).

What you need to do to thwart this BS is go to their website and join "Club Nokia" using fake address fake everything except login name and password. Once you can log in, you can get a list of warranty centers in your area in the UK.

PS, watch out, I have heard that they will try to blame the matter on "water damage" and get out of service. Didn't happen in my case, so I didn't have to face the issue. GOOD LUCK

i had the same problem a while ago, try and pull out the battery and set it out for a while and put it back in afterwards (say, 10 minutes) it worked for me.

The ringer in the 6100 is built into the antenna assembly so when it fails it requires a whole new antenna assy to be fitted. With regards to the comment on water damage, it is not in a service centers interest not to repair a phone due to water damage as nokia doesnt pay them for this as no warranty claim can be made, Therefor service centers only due it when there actually is evidence of liquid ingress in the handset.
I also would not advise giving false details on club nokia as this is often checked by service centers and may cause issues.

Dear Nokia Engineer,
In response to your comment, "I also would not advise giving false details on club nokia as this is often checked by service centers and may cause issues[]" it seems we have transgressed one another's fields of knowledge, yours mobile technology and mine, jurisprudence.

The forum no doubt thanks you for the clarification re the warranty centers and the ringer issue. I had actually gotten the information I reported from my carrier Orange, and this is why I qualified it as hearsay ("I have heard ...").

As a lawyer who feels that (1) protection of personal data is sacrosanct and (2) that a phone maker charging its paying customers extortionate amounts to get the warranty repair procedure for their own phone is an affront to good business mores, I strongly encourage and applaud any self-help the Nokia customer/victims take in response.

If people want to join Club Nokia of their own accord, so be it and my recommendation is irrelevant, but to make warranty procedures be freely accessible only to "members" is an insult.

But I have no intention of suggesting an action that could cause sanction to any user of this website. Consequently, I would be interested in your articulation of exactly what "issues" would be caused by giving false information to Club Nokia (as opposed to a service center). If one uses a false mobile number, address and falsifies any other personally identifiable information and requests that all the confirmation documents be sent by post and not email, it is impossible for Nokia to trace it back to the real user. And even if they could, what possibly could they do aside from cancel the user's membership, a sanction of no consequence when one joined the club just to get the warranty info in the first place.?

While i agree that it is a marketing exercise, it also helps us service centers to check ownership details of handsets and helps us to check for stolen phones. It doesnt help when people give false details. My advice is either register properly or dont do it at all. You dont need to be a member of club nokia to get your phone serviced under warranty that seems to be a major misunderstanding.

It's not a "major misunderstanding" from my end at least; it's that specific NON misunderstanding that started this whole discussion...Nokia charged me a PREMIUM rate call, as in £££ per minute, to get a service center address. Only way to get that information "free" is to be a member of Club Nokia.

I can appreciate the efforts of trying to track stolen phones, but that appreciation is outweighed the theiving Nokia is doing to each person who tries to get basic warranty service to which that person has a right.
