What phones do they work in

Both work in the following:
2 different 6310i s
1 3510i (not the one I am having problems with)
1 6150
1 6100

Does that shed any light I wonder ?

Hi.

You have the same problem in the Plymouth area, that I had in the Brighton area.

My 3510i was locked to O2, after unlocking I used a foreign SIM Card in one of the locations in my Twin SIM back, and got the "Failed SIM Registration" message.
I turned OFF and ON the phone, and eventually after re-aligning the SIM Card it worked.
When I put in my original O2 SIM Card, the same thing happened.
When I inserted my wife's SIM Card there was no problem at all. I noticed her one was different to mine in the shape of the contacts. It seems the newer ones (perhaps the Data Enabled ones) are more sensitive to position than the older ones.
Also I believe it was having RF energy induced into the flexible cable from the Twin SIM back to the SIM socket on the phone (Electromagnetic Sensitivity) causing QRM.

I now mostly use a Vodafone SIM Card, but still get the occasional "Insert SIM" message.

I assume that when you used the Unlocking Code, you removed the SIM Card?
I wonder if the code upset the recognition circuit, so now the phone rejects the original SIM Card?

Just some thoughts and personal experience.
