Hi there :)
What code is the phone asking for? If it is the PIN (personal identification number), this is given with the SIM card. Look at the envelope where your SIM was in, there should be the PIN printed somewhere. Normally this PIN should be changed by the user to an own one.
Or does the phone ask for the "Security Code".? When the "Phone Security" is activated, it prevents the phone from being used with another SIM than the owners. This is NOT "SIM-Lock"! The Security Code is 12345 if it hasn't been changed by you or an eventual previous owner of that phone.
As you originally asked for the phone's IMEI (international mobile eqipment identity), here is how to get that one....... two ways:
Look at that sticker in the phone's back, under the battery. There it's printed, either as "IMEI" or "Serial Number".
or press *#06# when the phone is in standby. The Serial Number (IMEI) is displayed.
Kind regards...

Your phone is most likely SIM locked, that means that your 8390 can only be used with the SIM card provided by that original service provider that provided you the phone.
You have an option to unlock your 8390 by entering an unlock code that is based on your IMEI number. Unlocking a phone allows you to use your 8390 with any GSM's SIM card around the world (e.g. in countries having the same network band GSM 1900 Mhz as your 8390). For example, in some Asia countries, only 800/1800 Mhz network is available, so your even with an unlock 8390, it won't works there. However if you plan to use your phone for TMobile service instead of ATTWS in Canada, unlocking your phone will allows you to use either service provider's SIM card.
To get your IMEI, power up your mobile phone and enter *#06#. An IMEI number will be display on your mobile screen.
Now, post the IMEI that you just got and your phone's original service provider name (i.e. ATTWS Rogers, etc.). Make a request on this forum, but not this thread (there is a thread for unlock request) and someone will send you an unlock code.
Good luck,

@maibuns
Maybe his phone isn't locked... if locked, it would respond to a foreign SIM with "SIM card not accepted" but he says it "asks for a PIN code"..?
If it asks for the PIN, it can't be locked.
Besides, the 8390 is no dual band, only GSM 1900. Here in Bangkok he could use it on Suthep (Thai Mobile) but that's it.... not much choices with a 1900 monobander :)
And to get the IMEI, no need to pull the SIM out. he can do that right from standby :)
Kind regards...
