Hi

I bought a 6510 a month ago off Ebay and today the phone stopped working showing the following message.

Sim card Registration Failed

I've been looking around this site and I've found out that this means the phone has been barred for either being lost or stolen.

Before I go back to the guy I bought it off calling him a tw@t and demanding my money back, is there any way I can find out which company barred it and also is there a website where stolen phones as listed?

Cheers

Loz

Bore da Loz.

You're not the only one to have been diddled buying a lost/stolen phone from "dodgy" people via Ebay.

If you take the back off the phone, then remove the battery, look for a label with a 15 digit (IMEI) code starting with 3514....
Also enter the code *#06# on the keypad, which will show this code on the screen.
You can check the validity of this number by going into a reputable phone shop, like Carphone Warehouse, and ask them to check it out, they have access to the DataBase where lost/stolen phones are registered.

Did it have an Orange SIM Card it it?
Quite often Orange take longer to bar phones.
Does it work with other SIM Cards? If you get the same message, then it does indicate lost/stolen.

Good luck

Hello :)

If the phone would have been barred or blocked, that would result it in either not being able to make calls or not catching network.

"SIM registration failed" means, like it says, that the SIM (!) could not be registered on the network.

This can be due to a network fault (may be temporary) or the SIM itself. I have that with one of my SIM's which is in fact disconnected since over two years. When i put it into the phone, it boots, asks PIN and then tries to find a network. Since the SIM is disconnected, every network refuses to "let it in" and that results in the message "SIM registration failed". I have tried it with several phones, of which none has been stolen or blocked or whatever.

@ GravyandChips

Try that SIM in another phone. If it does not work there either, you need a new SIM. IF it works, try another SIM in your phone, provided it's unlocked. If that also doesn't work, there might be a hardware/software fault in the phone (doesn't send complete registration data etc), flashing it might help.

Kind regards...
Thanh

In the UK we have 4 networks, Orange, Vodafone, T-mobile (one2one), and O2 (cellnet).

If Orange or O2 blacklist a Nokia phone and you put a sim in it it says "SIM CARD REGISTRATION FAILED"

With Vodafone and T-mobile, it shows signal but when you try to make a call it just beeps 3 times. (vodafone even lets a blacklisted phone send SMS).

Hope that clears things up.

Best Regards

Mark

P.S. @ Mr. Gravyandchips, It would have been O2 or Vodafone who blacklisted it. as it is not availible from Orange or T-mobile.

I advise you ring Orange (thats what I do) 07973 100150 choose the option to report your phone lost or stolen then when you get through ask them to check the IMEI out, All they can tell you is if its blacklisted or not, They cannot say why but atleast you will know to go back to guy you bought it off.

Good luck

Hi Sergo.

Here in the UK, lost or stolen phones are reported.
The 15 digit IMEI number that all mobile phones have is unique to each phone.
This is the number checked by the Networks each time a phone is connected. (check yours by keying in *#06# )
If the IMEI number is barred, it will not work on the Networks.
In the UK mobile phone crime is taken more seriously now.

It is now possible to check if a phone has been reported lost/stolen and the IMEI entered onto a DataBase. One such address is www.missingphones.com

When I was in Bulgaria, in the area of Varna and Ruse, there were not many mobile phone users. Maybe there are now.
Soon there will be barring if the crime rate is still high, and now includes mobile phone robbery.

Hi again Sergo.

You and I are used to working with a soldering iron and PCB's, but many members are not. :)
Sometimes it is better to seek advice from a shop.
I hope the problem is not too hard to sort out though.
