Yes, people have thought about IMEI changing before. Some of these people now have room mates called Bubba.

IMEI changing (or cloning)can be done, but is extremely illegal, and carries a prison sentance and/or a hefty fine (as far as I know). Best not to get involved......

To all of you,
changing the IMEI is absolutelly restricted. Usually, when ppl are changing it, it means that the phone is stolen or something like that. I have no information and ideas how that operation could be realised. Sorry

When GSM phones first came to Thailand, the local operators came up with the idea of locking IMEI numbers. That is, a phone's IMEI must be registered in the system in order to be used. So the operators can sell phones with 300-500% markup, and people are forced to only buy phones from them.

Needless to say, a whole industry of modifying IMEI numbers got started... and special IMEI numbers that are registered in all systems are sought after like the holy grail...
