I have two Nokia Phones 6210 & 3310 both unlocked & operate with BT, Orange, Vodaphone (I have tried these) Sim Cards.
My Wife's BT Pay As U Go Sim Card (which works fine in her old
Philips handset) will not work in either of my two phones. The
message reads, "unable to register Sim card".
Conversely my BT Sim card (not Pay as U Go) does work in her
phone.
My question is: Can the Sim cards be locked to one make (or
type) of handset and is this normal.

Nope - BT dont do this :/

What was her old phone tho? If it was a philips Diga then your out of luck - BT's network end system is set up so that during registration (turn on of phone) a card originally from the philips diga pack will only work on the original phone (IMEI) it was bought with!

NOTE: I know nothing about philips models, might have been savvy and not diga!

Maybe the new phones IMEI is blocked on BT?

Thanks DavieB,
I've checked the Phone it's a TCD128/BC which I have since found
out is a Savvy.
I get the impressionfrom you that I might be OK if it's not a Diga.
What I really want to do is let her use the old card (and number) in one of my new phones.

Sorry I forgot to mention, one of the new phones was originally
locked to BT before I unlocked it, so I thought that it would be OK,
but it did not work with her Sim card even before I unlocked it.

hey, can't you just change the IMEI on the nokia so it will be the same as the old Savvy?

wouldn't that work since the card can only be used with the old IMEI?

OK, I can't resist giving that a try tonight.
I'll let you know what happens.

well... maybe you have no solution then... i just thought it would work :)

maybe the savvy have a different type of imei, this isn't my field though...

maybe you can change the imei on the card somehow?
i know you can fiddle with the sims... in this forum there is a sim cloning related area, all sim related questions can be answered there i guess
