I have just got a Nokia 6800a plugged to AT&T from US , allows startup with a Vodafone sim card inside but it won't pick up the network, what's the easiest way getting it to work in the Middle East ?

I remember replying to an identical thread a few days back...... was that yours too..?

However, you got there an AMERICAN version of a 6800. That phone is not a tri-band, but only a dual band, available in two different version:

AMERICAN, working on 850 and 1900 MHz
NON-AMERICAN, working on 900 and 1800 MHz

Since you got an american one, you will not be able to use it in your area, since there are no networks in that frequency, but only 900 or 1800 MHz networks, and your phone can't pick those up. I am sorry, but you got a useless phone.......

You could try to find someone in the U.S.A. who got a non-american, and therefor also useless, 6800 model, and swap phones with that person......
