[COLOR=mediumturquoise]A "friend" sold me a 7250 a few months ago.
And yep, now it won't work cause its blacklisted!

I need to change the imei, and i have figured out i need to change the UEM chip. ( But i'd love someone to tell me thiers another way!)

I can get hold of a new UEM chip, but what else do i need?
is a dedicated box like trisha or griffin necasary or can it be done by cables software and pc?

do i need soldering/desoldering equipment?

how hard is it o actually cahnge the chip?

If anyone can help me please post or e-mail me at
NO MAIL ME HERE PLEASE...

1. have respect for other members. his reply was related to what you asked, and when you post a question in a public forum like nfree - anyone can reply.

2. fuzion is right - it is illegal. you will get the information here, but you have to know it is illegal, and that if you do it and get caught - it's your own risk, and we are not responsible.

now, about your questions:

sorry to tell you, there is no other way..

you don't need a box to change the imei, what you need is an imei rebuilder. it is a little hardware device, similar to an unlocking clip, with a small screen on it. this device has a short cable that connects to the phone and programs the new imei to the blank new chip.
there are some software that claim to be imei rebuilders, but none of them is fully tested. if you want to try a software like that - you only need a cable.

do i need soldering/desoldering equipment?

yes, you need that to replace the uem chip.

how hard is it o actually cahnge the chip?

don't know, i've never tried it, but one thing for sure - the uem chip is not like other components, like lcd screens that can easily be replaced - it is not meant to be replaced, and so you must have some technical skills, and also some experience in soldering to make this operation, or else you may damage your phone.

Well nice friend you got mate..
changing UEM is VERY difficult and without some years of soldering experience.. well buy yourself about 20 faulty phones and start practicing

You need:
Hot air station
pro solderstation
WICK

very steady hands :)
oh also a holder for pcb would come in handy.
oh and I forgot you also need flux..

Well got some money? ;)

With best regards,

I have a video tutorial on CD written by flexasist that shows you how to change the chip but you do need money/experiance/steady hands!
If you live in the UK I could post you a copy!

It is hard and takes practice!

what does "blacklisted" means?

Let me guess, you buy this UEM chip and Rebuilding software in the dark alley streets of London/Sydney/New York or China? Joking.

Its impossible to find these displayed in a shop? Then any ideas to get one in Australia? lol

what does "blacklisted" means?

every cellular device has an imei number. (imei = international mobile equipment identity). this imei is the device's id, and it is sent to the network everytime you log in to it.

when a mobile phone is lost, or stolen, the owner can report it to the phone company, and they will put its imei in the blacklist. when they do that - the blacklisted phone will not be able to connect to the network, or at least will not be able to make outgoing calls, which makes it useless to the theif or the one who found it.

in some countries the networks share their blacklist. in uk for example, if you had an orange phone, and it was stolen, it will be useless in the uk - in all of the networks.

Danwood,
Do you think you could send me it, via email or msn, or something?

i have one question, i think either yotamz, danny or nokdoc might be able to answer it fully,

i have learned that the UEM chip stores the IMEI number of the phone, and that when the phone is switched on, this IMEI number is sent to a database of blacklisted IMEI numbers, to get to the point, is it possible to reprogram a flash file so that it doesnt search for the IMEI from the UEM chip, but instead from a different location in the phone, maybe even the simcard itself can be re-programmed so that it sends a specific ( changable ) IMEI to the network,

i ask this because while flashing DCT3 handsets some flash files will automatically change IMEI, i was wondering if something similar could be done with DCT4

For modding the flash you need the authority checksum to get fixed but the algo is not available for free yet. So anyone that can even modify the flash to do that,he cannot correct the checsums so u will get DEAD phone or CS.

If that could be done, it would help alot of people like myself who have bought barred handsets not knowing they were barred, and loosing quite a bit of money, but I doubt it can be done, but keep me informed :)

Hi,

From my own point of view I would be interested in the suggested software solutions. I know you've all said they don't work, but I would rather try and fail than not try at all. Which software does this?

Assuming that the software solution doesn't work, (as expected). Is there a guide on how to change the UEM and rebuild the IMEI. I have searched the forums, but as yet have not found a definative guide.

I am experienced with soldering, I have access to the tools I need, I know it's illegal. Is there any specialist cables, boxes or summit else I am missing?

I would really appreciate a muppets guide to doing this. Once I have an idea of the complexity of the job, I am then informed enough to decide if it's worth pursuing or if it's just a pipe dream.

I should imagine cost wise, it would make more sense to sell the phone and a buy another one, but were is the fun in that??? I'm not interested in using or selling the phone if can experiment on it.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi,

I have the same problem as many of you, i bought a barred phone without knowing it and since i have access to the tools needed, i would like to take a look at the guide, if anyone can send it i would really appreciate it.

Thnx

@the insaan...no way with modding..IMEI is security data base and U cant just put it where U want ...besids DCT4 modding is not started on high levels till now...I hope some smart people will do it soon..
@cyberboss...now U need a box which have rebuild IMEI option..and rpl file to upload to phone...no other way...
@lex0013...better swap Ur phone with someone in another country...
Regards!

@ everyone

hope this help,
Just get new UEM chip with empty IMEI, and write .rpl to it. Off course your IMEI wont be the same as stated at the back of your phone :D
