It will save you big money if you go abroad. AT&T would charge me $1.30 a minute if I went to Europe on one of their SIMs.

Conversely, having an unlocked phone will allow me to use a local, pre-paid SIM and pay maybe 10 or 20 cent a minute for calls.

In addition, unlocked phones have a much higher re-sale value......
