the previous phones such as 7210 or 6610 only has 4-chord polyphonic tones. but now 3200 and the soon to be released phones now support 16-chords. why does it have to be like that? they shouldve just used 16-chords from the beginning.

any opinions on this?

that was pretty lame. (Just kidding). At first I thought they were just trying to protect copyrighted midi files.

Anyway by next year their soon-to-be released phone will be having 24-polyphonic chords. Which is nice yet still way behind Sony Ericsson's 32-chords and other phone manufacturer (Samsung / Panasonic) 40-chords.

i think it's a breakthrough yet i prefer to use MP3 ring tones only for those instrumental music, dance music or songs with long intro, because i dont find real singing voices very ringtone-alike. i hope im making sense to you. well whaddya think?

Its nokias way of making money, why introduce all the good features at the start? Why not just release new fones with more and more features, will make rich people upgrade more often. More upgrades means more money!

They can do anything they want to, these phones costs them 10$ a phone to manufacutre (i dunno about the newer phones, but the 3310 did), its all about buying in bulk. The profits they get from it is huge, over 1000%
