Greetings All,
I'm using a sim free N6600 on the orange network. The problem i'm having is that when I recieve a voice message I don't get an alert on my phone - which is a bit of a pain because I've to keep ring my answer phone to see if there are any new messages. I rang orange and they slapped my wrist for using the 6600 because it hasn't fully been tested on their network. I told them to fuck off.
Any ideas?
Also,
I have to assign a ring tone to eveyone in my address book otherwise it defaults to the 'nokia ring' - even though my general profile lines 1 and 2 have different ring tones selected and the profile is active.
Again, any ideas.
Cheers,
typiod

My mate ordered a 6600 through orange and he was told it was currently out of stock. After about a week he phoned up to see how long it was going to take, he was told that orange were still testing and it would be availible on January the 4th at the EARLIEST!!! So he cancelled it and his vodafone should arrive within days.

Hi the problem is, is that usually non orange phones do not support the answerphone symbol. You have to unlock it somehow.
It may not be that, if you PM me you mobile number then I will check on the system tommorrow and reset your answerphone alert Might be worth a try.
As far as I am aware, the 6600 has been delayed with Orange due to problems with using Orange features on the handset and a number of techinical problems.
Try the reset though

Just ignore them in this case, its a jobsworth you have got.
But the line 2 software is an important feature of the orange software, if it doesn't work then chances are they won't release the phone.
P800 is the only phone not to support line 2.
If you don't buy an Orange phone , chances are it won't fully work on the network. Try taking it a servie centre and asking them.

On orange the oldest version of firmware, v 3.42.1 16-10-03 nhl-10 doesn't work with voicemail indicators on orange (could be on other networks as well but my o2 handset seems fine and runs the same firmware) so you need a firmware upgrade but im not sure how you can get one, i think you can take it to a nokia service centre and they will reflash it for you for a price but im not completely sure.

[QUOTE=6600Wizard]oldest version of firmware, v 3.42.1 16-10-03 nhl-10[QUOTE]
Why do people keep saying 'oldest' firmware version? Its the ONLY version available...at least according to the gods of firmware details:
http://www.mwiacek.com/gsm/firmware/firmware.htm#5
Direct to 6600:
http://www.mwiacek.com/gsm/firmware/dct4_6.htm#6600
Still lists only 3.42.1 - and these guys are usually spot on with updates...

I'm 99% sure that you need a firmware update, supposedly available everywhere by the end of next week. It solves all of the probs in the earliest firmware, v 3.42.1. I'm with o2 tho, and i'm having the same ringtone prob it's doing my head in. plz help

Glad to hear theres a software update available soon. Would like to see the list of fixes and changes etc.
On the Orange point, I was always under the impression the reason it takes them so long to release phones on their network is because they write special software for their phones and the phone gets a new number i.e. standard 3210 was 3210e on Orange!

Orange wont release a phone unless it 100% works on thier network. (Except the SPV  ) so thier waiting for a Firmware Update which is embarassing due to the fact that this was their Video Messaging Flag Phone
Orange usually take so long because they like to overly test the handset... Then thye like to stamp gay badges all over them and infect them with undeletable Orange Wallpapers and silly startup logos then release them on the public....
O2 and Voda just chuck you a sim free phone and say "There you are"

By the way, crew, ive sorted out the ringtone prob, i'll let u know how to sort it in case u havent already. Your ringtone has to be in phone mem. digital sounds folder. Sorted

Yeah I heard. Why is that though? When you format a fresh MMC using the phone it puts a folder on the MMC:- E:\Sounds\Digital or Simple - same as on phones memory. It would make sense that the phone should then read from the MMC as well!?
Strange.

Actually I believe the 6600 is to be a Vodafone Live! phone, as was my 3650, meaning it will be locked and the ROM will be filled with Vodafone junk.
Everytime I reset my 3650 I get all the Vodafone favourites, Live! key, wallpaper and startup logo return.
I only hope that the 6600 does not have to go the way of the T610 and be permanently covered in Vodafone Live! junk, since it allows for themes, I would not be suprised if the theme was a Vodafone Live! one.
Anybody able to confirm or deny this yet?

My mate got his vodafone 6600 on tuesday and i'm happy to report there was zero vodafone shit on it, well unless you count the op logo which was promptly removed.

Vodafone havent officially launched the 6600 yet but peple are selling sim free stock on Singlepoint etc...
As its not been launched yet its not a "live" phone ;) no doubt they will fill it with crap by the time they have launched. Most networks are having the usuall MMS/GPRS probs with it at the moment
People who deal with Voda are more than happy chuck you a sim free phone that isnt 100% working on the network and say "Coming soon" or "Were sorting it" orange wont which is a pain in the arse :(
