Safe To Unlock A TracFone ?

I have a Nokia 5180iP that is a TracFone. If I unlock the phone, will I lose my minutes or have the service disconnected ? Does TracFone "know" if I unlock it.

Also, it appears like they've removed some of the menu options. Is there any way I can restore them ?

Tracphone? Do you put a sim card in the phone, if it doesn't it's pretty safe to unlock your phone because all of your account informations are stored in your sim card.
