Some people you need userport.
Some people say you need to use WinXP->98 compatibility mode.
Other people say Rolis is made on XP and needs NO messing with, to make it work.

What's the actual deal?

Additional: Setting compatibility mode to 98 removes the warning by ROlis "Userport must be running on win xp", but im thinking that Rolis just checks the version of windows, and when run in compatibility mode, Windows lies to Rolis. Does anyone know if compatibility mode restores direct access to i/o ?

You NEED userport on xp for using the serial and ltp port!
DON'T set compatibility mode as that just fu*ks up rollis

For information regarding userport see the forum FAQ

Also if you have ATI radeon display drivers you will need to use an additional program called porttalk to use any flasher/mbus program
