HI ,
I have a Nokia 6800 that was on AT&T network, it's unloccked but it will still not recognize the sim card from T-mobile or Cingular, the phone is US based as well. Please help me in enabling my phone to use T-mobile network.
When I insert the sim card , it still reads insert sim card !
Thanks all you guys, I have learned a lot from reading all the posts@

Sound like your sim card is bad, but if you tried 2 different sim cards... Have you tryed it in another phone. Even if its locked to a different carrier, it will say "Sim card not accepted" instead of "insert sim card". Also T-Mobile will credit you the price of a new card if you buy it at one of their stores.

thanks for the info, so are you saying that my phone is bad ?
1. I tried the unlock sequence, it says the phone is not restricted
2. even after trying 2 sim cards, it does not say anything other than " insert Simcard" cos my other phones say restricted when I switch sim card >
so you think I should change my phone ? or will it only take At&t ?

Have you tried those sim cards in another phone? First verify if those sim cards are good and then look at the phone. Remember even if the phone you are testing the sim cards in is locked it will still display "Sim not Accepted" not "insert simcard" Next go to T-mobile store, they can test your phone with a known good card.
Hope this helps

thanks again,
well the sim cards I used to test are currently working on other phones, the damn thing is not recognized only by the 6800 .
yeah, taking it to a T-mobie would be a good ides,
also I would like to know if the phone will need a At&t card to accept the sim ?

Hi, I just unlocked my AT&T 6800 and inserted a T-Mobile (well Voicestream now) sim card. It worked fine for me. No problems at all.

I also unlocked my ATT 6800 using the code generator. Now it works with a Cingular SIM just fine for voice calls, but no WAP Internet or emal! Argh!
