I'm having problems recording videos with sound on my 3650. The video is recorded ok but only the first 2-3 seconds of the audio. I've tried ETI Camcorder, Hip Cam and Philips Camcoder but the same thing happens. It has been the same with firmware 2.5, 3.16, and 4.13 on the phone. Installing on a newly formated phone makes no difference. Only the internal video recorder captures the sound but it can only record 10-15 seconds.
PLEASE help me someone with this.

Turn off the sound in ETI Camcorder. That works!

I am having the same problem ever since I upgraded to a 128mb MMC card. I have a 3600 with Ver.2.01 firmware. It is odd you are having the problem with all the firmware upgrades you have done.

I have the same problem with Philips Camcoder PRO v3.75. Installed the app on 128mb MMC. Good video but 1-2 secs of audio only! But audio recording is fine when app is installed on PHONE MEMORY and video is saved on PHONE MEMORY. My phone is N3650 v4.13 and is upgraded recently. I don't have ETI Camcorder installed. The only apps installed are SeleQ, Photographer v2.4, PhotoID v2.71, World Clock Pro v1.60. Please help!!!!

Thanks for your replies.
I also have a 128MB MMC so maybe that could have something to do with the problem. I usually try to install all my apps on the MMC to keep the phone as clean as possible but if nothing else helps I will try chrome8's suggestion. To bad the memory is so limited that way.
I also have Dictaphone, that can record long audio sequences, installed and that app works fine so maybe the problem have something to do with the combination of audio and video at the same time.

Hmmmm..here is a little more detail with my problem. The phone recognizes the memory card and will even format it. All the Nokia applications work. The only thing that does not seem to work properly are third party applications that use sound. For example the Phillips camcorder pro will record video to the MMC card, but only records about 1 sec of audio. Also the time left is shown at about 9 minutes and that is not correct.
The e-recorder from psiloc.com will record to the phone memory, but not the MMC. The only exception so far has been HipCam which I don't like, and as I recall Dictaphone was working.

I am beginning to wonder if this is a memory card brand issue. I am using a Kingmax 128mb MMC memory card. What brand are you all using?

Finally, i already figured it out what causes audio recording problem. It's the MMC guys!!! If you're using 128mb MMC (no particular brand), go to Extras-->Memory and check the actual Capacity of your MMC. If it says 125mb, then surely there won't be sound recorded. But if the capacity is 122mb, you're lucky! I've tried this one, trust me! It works though on the 16mb that comes with the package. Any comment on this???

Sorry but I am a bit lost. Mine too says 125mb free. So you are saying a freshly formated memory card that indicates 122mb free wil work? If you got one that was working which brand was it?

I also have 125mb capacity on my OEM-card (no particular brand).
If chrome8 is right and this is the cause of the problem, does anyone know what the reasons are to the capacity to become 122 or 125mb on a formated card if it's not the brand?
And haven't anyone with a 16, 32, 64 or 512mb had this problem? Can we now be sure that it's a 128mb problem only?

Why does a 128mb card become 122mb after formatting?

By manufacturer's logic - there is 1000 bytes to 1kb, and 1000kb in 1mb.

But actually, there is 1024 bytes in 1kb and 1024kb in 1mb.

So, by manufacturer's logic, there is 1,000,000 (1000 x 1000) bytes in 1mb.
Actually there is 1048576 (1024 x 1024) bytes in 1mb.

So again, by manufacturers logic, 128mb/1000kb = 128
But in real life, 128mb/1048.576 = 122 or there abouts.

Hey Johnny,
Thanks for that explanation. I thought 125 seemed high for a formatted 128 MMC but was not sure.

I bought the phone (3600) mostly on account of your review at mobiledia. I almost got a T610, but the differences between the two phones and your review kept pushing me to get the 3600, and I am glad I did.

I wish someone would post a brand of memory card that works. Anyone?

Try a PQI or MUSE 128mb MMC. Better yet bring your 3650 and insert the MMC into your phone before buying it to make sure you get a 122mb. I think any brand will work as long as it says 122mb. 2 other friends' 3650 got a 125mb(Twinmos and the other one i forgot the brand) and i inserted mine (122mb) into their phone and Philips camcoder worked!!!

Thanks chrome8. You have been very helpful and I am happy you figured out the problem. You are right about taking the phone to a store to make sure the MMC works. There are a couple of online places that guarantee their memory cards that I recently found and online prices are cheaper than the store. But I don't think it is worth any more frustration.

hi,

i use a generic, i mean ebay sold 64 mb card. i also have the same problem with my phone with bith eti and philips camcoder. it wont record any audio after 2 seconds. even if i transfer the file from the mmc to the computer, the computer doest play sound either. so there is no sound recording after 1-2 seconds.

my memory card capacity shows 61. which is exactly half of the 122 number chrome8 came up with. but it doesnt work.

what should be done in my case ? should i buy a branded one like lexar or kingston ?

i still dont get it. why wouldnt it record more audio thank 2 secs even if there is like 61 mb left. whats wrong with the memory capacity and any of thses programs recording audio after 2 or whatver secs ?

hmmm.

thanks,
ronak

Just to add to this I was getting memory errors in addition to the sound problems. I also transferred a 64 meg video file to the 128mb and it played the sound but the video was choppy. I have another card coming tomorrow and I will report back. If the second one doesn't work then I suspect it will be a firmware problem. I have a Nokia 3600 with ver 2.01 firmware and I have no problems at all using the 16mb card that came with it. So I fear upgrading the firmware. BTW, as I understand it the firmware for the 3600 is different than the firmware for the 3650.

I would like to thank chrome8 ,johnnyspliff, and everyone else that provided input.

I installed the new memory card and all of the applications, including the ones that record sound are working perfectly. Also the applications folder opens faster than it used to with the Nokia 16mb, but not by much. I did not get a chance to load a huge video file, but so far I am very happy wih the results of the new card. BTW, so far I have not needed to format it, and it does read 122mb.

I can not say that what works for me will work for you, but if anyone is interested, the link follows where I purchased it from. Good luck.
