Mario Land 2 save games

Does anyone know how i can get mario land 2 to save games. I am talking about mario land 2 on GB, im running it on gamephone and zipping the file but it doesnt save the game "in game". Does anyone know how i can get this working to save in game?

Tried the gamephone, has better sound support (a lot better) but lousy savegame options, i never even got to load a savegame without it crashing, still, the goboy plus jams my phone if i receive a call during gameplay...
