View Full Version : replacing the nokia 6600 casing with an unoriginal one

I'm from the Philippines, and in a local cellphone store, nokia 6600 cases with different colors are being sold. They're not original though. In the nokia website, they do not have express-on covers for the nokia 6600. Does that mean that they advise us not to change the casing of our phones? Is it ok to remove the original casing and replace it with an unoriginal one (suppose that it fits the phone just fine)? I'm really cautious about my phone. Has anyone experienced removing the original casing and replacing it with another one (not necessarily unoriginal one)? Any reply would be really appreciated. Thanks!

pls dun do that!!!
some "fake" ones can hinder the pressing of the buttons or some cannot really snap onto your phone probably.. try to get it done in a nokia care centre if u really need to change your cover!

well, its up to u, but non origs might not work, buttons not popped up enough, hard to press, etc. but u can test b4 u buy.
if u ever send ur fone to nokia for fw upgrade or wat, rem to replace the orig back or the warr is considered void.

Umm i've never pulled apart a nokia 6600, but on other phones there wasn't really much problem about putting non official nokia covers on. Most casings came with their own keypads so if they got worn out after a while you'd always have the originals to revert back to..
Is it the same with the 6600, i mean does the keypad also come off...?

the nokia 6600 was never made to have express-on covers bcoz the way they made the cover 4 it is NOT "express" at all. YES i hav tried 2 take off my cover n put it back on n did it successfully. however, i suggest u should only try it once uv grown long and STRONG nails. dont use any sharp objects (eg. screw driver etc.) but just put up with it and slip ur nails in the gap between the front cover n the phone. start from the bottom n trace up as far as u can go then do the same to the other side, once both sides r slightly detached, do the top bit n it should pop-up. ull see the keypad is juz like the other nokia keypads etc. u can pretty much juz put it back on with ease. so unless the cover ur gonna buy VARIES in shape with the original one it should work fine. im getting mine delivered in a few days. its a metallic blue one from ebay n i plan on putting it on myself.

my views on those aftermarket housings.

Imo, go original or go without!
They truly suck, i think i've just had bad experiences with aftermarket housings, they just don't have the right feel to it as the originals do.

i've haD no problems with fake casings.
though try to stick to orginaL KEYPADS than the crystal type.
reasons for using fake casing.
i'm really outdoor person... my fone is always moving here and there...out at sea..... out cyclin or blading.....
dropped a few times in fact.....
no worries putting my keys to gether with my fone anymore...
i can chasnge the casing as and when i like

it really depends on the quality of the after-market casings u get... i mean i've had crap housings before and they NEVER affected the state of the phone (I've had more than 10 nokias) but then again, i never really use crap housings for long... just try and get a good-fitting housing and stick with it. keypads r much more delicate so if the after market ones dont work just settle with the one u hav now. anyway, its the price u pay 4 style ;)

yes thats true, however that price gernally doens't include the keypad.
there's a champange (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3382499702&category=57254) (exclusive colour to the asian market) and a Rose (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3383699781&category=57254) one on ebay but as you can see they dont' have the keypads which is pretty useless imo as it looks terrible without the proper coloured keypad.
I for one have purchased the rose set and also purchased the rose keypad from another place.
It cost me quite a bit to change the housing of my 6600, but i like it and i'll pay for the qulaity for originals, also due to the fact that the rose one is not available here in australia, so i'll be one of the few thats got a rose 6600 8-) 8-) 8-) ;) :D
