S60 meaning Symbian Operating System. S40 is a lot more basic.

3650, 7650, ngage, 3660 and 6600 are symbian series 60 fones.

the rest of the current nokia color fones are series 40, 8910i and 3530 are series 30.

The Symbian OS phones are much more powerful and have a better support for add on applications (i.e. not restricted to JAVA apps only), symbian is much more like a PDA based OS as compared to a s40 series phone..

In more simple terms it means.

Diffrent operating system.

I.E. WINDOWS/MAC.......

or put is simply, most new computer s/w will not work with older windows version. (not to say that S40 is old.)

Its juz a diffrent system.

is there a method to understanding nokia phone models ie which ones are the latest which ones are s40 s60 by their name.
E.G. 6100 is 10 time better than a 6110
6600 = s60
6610 = s40
6620 = s60
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Of course, that dont really work with the N-Gage because its a name and not numbers...But just remember that N-Gage is 10 times better then any other Nokia phone :lol:

I was wondering, since its series 60 still, is it possible to flash the phone with version 7 then? Or does the firmware and actual phone model contribute to the possibilty?

What would really like is to produce a raw phone, just like a PC for example i have a 6600 which has symbian 7, then when they release symbian 8 , instead of fixing it on a phone and we have to replace them and pay lots of money, they can put it on a CD and sell it; so all u do is log ur phone to ur computer and install the new operating system just like windows.

But i dont think that might happen cuz if they do that they'll be outta buisness.

no way, coz of the differences in parts and hardware, like cam, ram, and mani more stuff.
