my 6610 was stolen,is it still possible to know that it is my phone if the theft changed the imei?

6610 is DCT4 and at the moment the IMEI cannot be changed (unless a solution has occured since I was last here) by software and can only be changed by replacing the UEM chip. This is a costly procedure (so I've read) so unless your phone is taken to another country where it's not barred or the UEM chip changed, it's just a costly paper weight.

As a sideline, my daughter left my 8310 on a train (never handed in) I rang O2 which was the network the phone was on and was told they would block the sims, I said that the sims would have possibly already been moved from the phone so the phone would not be blocked, I was told that it didn't matter because they would block the sims and the phone that the sims last registered to the network with :)

Should i be keeping record of my imei numbers in case my phone gets stolen, so that the service provider can block it, or do they know that anyway?

I know that to get the phones blocked a fee must be paid in Australia, don't know if it is like that in other countries.

Hope this post isn't duped.....

It is a good idea to do so (keeping the record, that is), particularlly if you are using an unlocked phone on your SP brought from a third party. They would likely have no record of the IMEI.

Here is a very good article about a registry to ban stolen or lost phones world wide:
