Frquently asked questions about: Unlocking Nokia DCT4 Models

Q: How do I enter the codes?
A: Remove the sim-card, power on the phone, and enter the code as it is with all the charactes. to get p w and + hit the asterik (*) key several times.

Q: Where can I find my IMEI number?
A: You can find it under the battery, or by pressing *#06#.

Q: Where can I find my network code?
A: Go to this page:
http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/index.shtml
choose your country from the list, then click on "Network Information" of the network you want. The number will be displayed as 123 45, in the "Network Code" field.

Q: Which models are DCT4?
A: 1100, 2300, 3100, 3200, 3300, 3510, 3510i, 3650, 3660, 5100, 5140, 6100, 6220, 6230, 6310, 6310i, 6510, 6600, 6610, 6650, 6800, 6810, 6820, 7200, 7210, 7250, 7250i, 7600, 7650, 7700, 8310, 8910, 8910i, and u.s versions of the above - xx10 = xx90.

Q: How many wrong codes can i enter?
A: You can enter up to 5 wrong codes. in the 5th try the phone will be hard-locked, and you'll have to unlock it using cable.

Q: Is unlocking illegal?
A: Unlocking is not illegal, but it might void the warranty of your provider. check the contract with your provider to be sure.

Q: Which ASIC type shall I use with my model?
A:
-ASIC 7: 6650 and 7600.
-ASIC 5: 3650, 7650, 6600, N-Gage.
-ASIC 6: 6230.
-ASIC 2: all others.

Q: Which box-serial/key-code shall I use with my model?
A: Always use v2 (33820) except when that doesn't work (try the New Griffin code - 34144), or if you are calculating a code for 1100 - then use Griffin Clip (33552).

Q: Which code shall I use out of the seven?
A: For U.S phones - use code 1. For others - use code 7.

Q: I have correct codes, but still get Code error, why?
A: Some phones are not locked out of factory, try using another simcard, and don't use the same code more than once. If you are sure the phone is locked - double check all the details again. If nothing works - use a cable and read the configuration key using bWinlock, and use that as the network code.

Q: Which networks have special codes?
A: Currently there are 3 networks that have special 8-digit network code. these are:
-Fido Canada - 30200001
-Debitel Denmark - 23800001
-Virgin UK (3510i only) - 23400001
some also have special network code for some models only:
AT&T U.S - Usually 30138, but for some 3650s - 24407.
Note: This information is not that important, since the calculators have a list with networks

Q: What is the difference between locked and blocked?
A: A locked phone is a phone that is locked to one provider. It will only accept simcards of that provider. If you try to use another simcard you will get "phone restricted" message, and you'll be asked to enter a code.
The codes generated with the calculators can open this lock.
A Blocked (Barred, or "Blacklisted") phone is a phone that has been reported lost or stolen, and it's imei was barred. A blocked phone will accept the simcard, but will either get no signal, or get signal but will not let you make calls.
Codes will not open this lock.

If you have any corrections or additions to this document - please post a reply about it in this thread.

Q: Do you enter the network codes of the cellphone or the country where i will use it?
A: You enter the network code of the cellphone, the one you baught it from.

Q: after the 5th trial could i be able to unlock without cable?
A: No.

Q: if i need to use the cable what software do i need?
A: Generally, If the phone is older than 7210 (all the monochrome dct4 models, except for some software versions) you can use a normal mbus cable, along with the JIC unlocked software.
If the phone is newer - you will need a box like griffin to unlock it.
There is also the bWinlock software by b-phreaks. It's unlock function requires a dongle, but if you have wrong codes, and you haven't used your 5 tries, you can use it to read the correct network code from the phone using a cable.

yep, just found out, i didnt realise that these days, if you request a phone to be barred, they slowly but surely bar it on all the uk networks, i now realise they all share the same lists. bCool is sorting me out with the same fone, Swap.

Hi, I have a 7250i. it was locked on Orange UK. I used the code from this site to unlock it so I can use my Vodafone sim. the vodafone sim works fine for calls, but when I try to use GPRS it says connection unavailable. I got gprs settings sent to me from vodafone site, but it still don't work. if I use an orange sim (with orange gprs settings) it works fine... any ideas?

It could be something as simple as you have your GPRS setting set to use the orange settings by default, look in the GPRS setting and delete the orange one, let me know how it goes.
J 8-)
BTW: this here is for unlocking DCT4 nokias, that should have been posted in the appropriate place.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have done that, but no luck... it is definatly using the GPRS settings sent by vodafone. I also have a 3650 (on Vodafone), an the gprs works fine here, so it is not the signal. I also tried to put the GPRS settings in Manualy, (copy from the 3650) the user name is wap, but I don't have the password, so I gave that up. Vodaphone sends 2 different settings, one for GPRS, and one for MMS (Vodafone Live)... both don't work.. :-? can orange restrict the GPRS settings?

If i was you i would delete all of youtr GPRS settings and then resend them from the vodafone website, if that doesnt work, try calling the vodafone helpdesk, and they would most probably sort it out in about a min. hopefully lol

Nobody would help you change the IMEI in this forum, for the rick of being kicked off it.(You can get upto 5 years for changing the IMEI). For your information, so that you do not waste time on the subject, the IMEI can be changed, but you need to replace the chip inside, and then repair the IMEI, but whats the point when you can just unlock it and use a different network?

I really couldnt tell you, on my 7250i i would:
menu
services
settings
connection settings
and then either remove or change everthing to random stuff like the pass word as 50962ghn or anything just so that , when the new setting arrive it will all be changed to the right ones. this may help, if not, you can use a program like oxygen2 and delete all the Wap and GPRS setting via the cable.

deleteing the gprs settings will not help..

maybe you got the new settings, but didn't set the phone to use them instead of the old settings.

go to service » settings » active service settings (something like that, my phone is not in english) » select the new setting.

also make sure that you are registered to the gprs service. you may have the correct settings, but gprs is not free you know, so you will not be able to connect unless you have registered to a gprs package.

Still no luck... I have made sure that the only settings available are Vodaphone, for wap(gprs) and mms, and both will not connect, it just says that GPRS is not available. I am about to try the voda sim in my 3650 to check that it is not a problem with the sim, but i doubt it... It is some evil plot by networks to prevent unlocking...has anyone unlocked an Orange locked phone & used it on Vodaphone with gprs???

Q: I entered more thatn five codes but how am i supposed to know it is hard locked because it still lets me enter codes but all of the codes i enter don't work

A: You can't know that with wrong codes. But when you enter the correct code - you'll get "Cannot undo restriction".

You have been such a big help - I thank you... But, I have one "pretty silly question": when unlocking a phone, do you have to press "send" after putting in the code or does the phone's software recognize it as soon as you put in the last # character? (I know... pretty dumb, eh??? but with only 5 tries, I don't want to purchase a phone and have to toss it if I mess up.)
Thanks for all your help...

When you press the # key, that registers the number youve typed into the phone. Also even if you have put in 5 wrong codes you dont mess up the phone, it only means its stuck with the original network you are trying to unlock from. Only means that it cant be unlocked with codes BUT can still be unlocked using cable method so get that tossing away phone idea out of your head

All Nokia phones (Nokia 6230 and newer) have four different SIM locks which can be used to lock the phone for up to 4 different providers. But most phones with restriction only have one lock activated. (Lock 1)

The main code used in Nokia 6230 phones is :
#pw+(master code)+Y#
This code is able to check, activate or remove Sim card restriction (SP-lock).
Use the * key to get the p, + and w chars.
'Y' has to be 1,2,3 or 4 - depending of what lock you what to deal with.

#pw+1234567890+1# for Provider-Lock status
#pw+1234567890+2# for Network-Lock status
#pw+1234567890+3# for Country-Lock status
#pw+1234567890+4# for SimCard-Lock status

1. Insert SIM card of different provider.
2. Turn on the phone and press the UP VOLUME key for 3 sec.
Then release it and the phone says PIN CODE?
3. Press the "C" key.
4. Then Press * and wait until it disappears and appears again, then press * one more time and 04*PIN*PIN*PIN#

Caution : we dont take any resposbilty if your phone is damamged, Experiment at your own risk.

it is a copy of the dct2 unlocking methods, can be found in http://mobile.box.sk .
i've entered this site. when you select a different phone from the left menu it will only change the first part ("these are nokia <something> unlock codes.."), the rest remains the same.

There is one way to try
if you now what county the fone is lock on
try thi sim card of there provider and see witch 1 works

like for example
if Phone is locked to a provider in USA
the the provider of that country
=AT&T;U.S.A.
=CINGULAR - Pacific Bell Wireless;U.S.A.
=T-Mobile;U.S.A.
=Cincinnati Bell Wireless;U.S.A.

or if you dont have sim cards to try out
then get a cable to read the phones data
the software Nokia bWinLock v1.0.6 by B-Phreaks

I tried inserting other characters as the last and I can (but then of course the code would be wrong so I erased it afterwards ... but I can type the whole code because of that bloody last # character...

Thanks for the reply guys.. a couple of few more questions...

I understand there are 5 trials to unlock nokia 6230. The thing is I brought it to a shop to unlock it and they probably did a few trials and couldn't do it so I just want to find out many valid trials are left.. is there not a way to find this out?

Also, is it true that unlocking nokia 6230 via cable can be done whether or not the phone has exceeded 5 trials of unlocking by code?

Since there is no code for this phone for now, is cable the only way at the moment?

Sorry if the questions above may sound silly but I'm a total newbie on unlocking phone stuff...

HI
yes there is a way to unBARRE you fone
but is a bit costly
you will need to replace the UEM chip on the fone and replace the IMEI with new one and it will work again ( ITS ILEGAL )

Hi, I'm trying to use the online calculator to unlock my nokia 3620, but no calculator seems to support it! I tried the codes generated when the phone model selected was 3650, but this did not work. Any help?

I'm in Thailand (Bangkok) too!

The Nokia 3595 is a dual band GSM phone, but one specifically for northern america - it supports GSM 850 and GSM 1900. Using 1-2-Call here (AIS!) requires the phone to support GSM 900.

You might use it with Suthep's "Thai Mobile" service, which is GSM 1900, but works only in greater Bangkok. Outside it roams with AIS, but then again you need GSM 900, which the 3595 doesn't offer. There is a pre-paid package available for Thai Mobile, i just forgot it's name.... simply stop by in Mahboonkrong Centre (MBK) 4th floor and ask in any of the plenty phone shops there, they will be glad to sell it to you (that network isn't very popular). MBK is at skytrain station "National Stadium", just in case you didn't know already :)

You may also trade your 3595 in MBK against a GSM-900/1800 version of the same phone (Nokia 3530), but be prepared to pay on top of it. A used 3530 goes for around 3.000 Baht now (some 72 us$), bargaining possible. Since your's can be used only with Suthep here, they may not take it in or offer you very low price (500-800 Baht).

Kind regards....

your Thanh

I have been working to figure this out for awhile now. I will see what is the best as I am in Hua Hin not Bangkok. This is from my home and would have made it nice to you use one phone in two countries.
Thank You again!

Hello again :)

I have googled a little, and can now give you a more definite answer.....

You can get the "Thai Mobile" pre-paid SIM at any SAMART shop, since they are the marketing partner for Thai Mobile. Also some Noklia outlets such as ICT Stores sell them (at least in WTC and Central Bangna). The pre-paid package is called "SABAI".

But... in Hua Hin is most definitely NO COVERAGE with Thai Mobile's GSM 1900 network..... which makes it completely useless for you.

See this site for a coverage map (even tough not a very good one).
http://www.thaimobile.com/thaiframe/frame.php?link=http://www.thaimobile.co.th

You see, it covers basically the center of Bangkok. Suthep never really got off the grid with this network, but now they're talking about 3G because only Suthep holds a license for the 1900er frequency in Thailand.

I would advise you to just buy a second-hand phone in some shop near you. The phones are usually dead cheap and unlocked, if you get a Nokia 6610 for iinstance (some 5.500 Baht now, second hand) you may even use that back home since it's tri-band and covers the 1900 as well. But if you're on 850 at your home country.... well, then you're stuck with that one as well and you better just get any cheap dual band phone to use here :)

Networks in Thailand:
Digital:
AIS (GSM Advance, 1-2-Call) GSM 900, GPRS in major cities, EDGE in process
D-TAC (D-TAC, D-Prompt) GSM 1800, GPRS nationwide, EDGE in major cities
Orange (Talk Plan, Just Talk) GSM 1800, GPRS nationwide
GSM 1800 (no pre-paid available, belongs to AIS) GSM 1800, no data
Suthep (Thai Mobile, Sabai) GSM 1900, no data
Hutch (More, Play, Real, Say, Play Prepay, Say Prepay) CDMA 2000-1x, EV-DO in trial, High-Speed data where ever coverage (25 central provinces)
CAT (CAT) CDMA-IS 95, sporadic network in larger cities, offers roaming to Hutch-users out of their network, no data

Analogue:
AIS (Cellular 900) NMT-900, nationwide
D-TAC (New 800) AMPS 800, nationwide
TOT (TOT) (?) 470 MHz, being phased out

Kind regards....

I unlocked my mates 8310 using a calc a couple of weeks ago. He just told me it's not working anymore, it just comes up "test mode" and won't phone out. Was this my fault and is there any way to get out of test mode (I tried a search but all the threads involved cables).
