Gx10i Problem

I have been offered a Sharp Gx10i which appears to have what I hope is a software fault.

When the phone is switched on, the screen freezes. The guy says it worked on Vodaphone previously, so I assume it is not barred.

Can anyone help me decide whether it is worth buying, and an easy fix ?!?!!
