Hi.

NO you can't use the 04 instead of the 14, becurse the 74hc14 got a build in "smith trigger", witch gives the puls flanks a faster raise/fall time.

So if u use the 04 you will get a prob, if u try to comunicate faster then.. - hell i don't know how fast.... but my gues is about 4600 baud..

hope that answers your question

you can indeed use the 74hc04, I have used it in my flasher for the last 12 months. Granted the 7414 is better but the other still works. the 7414 is not as resilient to static tho, I know, I have blown plenty up and the 7404 seems to work better.

you cant use anything with LC in the middle, like 74lc14, it doesnt have the driving capabilities. low power cmos devices.

Hi dave...

Sure u havent used a 74act04 ???

If u keep blowing up your IC stop handeling them wrong...

I would still go for the 74hc14 becourse of the smith trigger...
alot af progs. going higher the 9800 baud will get probs. also it depents on the eeprom used in the phone... alot of siemens phones won't go for 04. at least thats my experiance...

My advice... use the 14 for flash and the 04 for Mbus.

Thx for pionting out the LC part, - alot of people keeps complaining about the IC going dead. Nice to see someone else but me telling it :)

By the way dave, - how are u with software ??? i suck at programming... (do u know any driver or software that makes the LPT port BIT addresebel in win-XP ??? if u do plz tell me :)

Hey Dave!

Are you sure I can use 74HC04 in the Flasher Cable because where I buy these electronic parts they don't sold 74HC14!

yea I'm sure you can, its just less reliable thats all. If you want a 7414 however I may be able to send you one for the price of the components and postage etc, providing i can get my hands on one, they seem pretty few and far between at the mo.

Dave.

@Dave

Sry about that one...

I just tried the 04 and it works....

Don't get it though, - acording to the spec's specified on national the 04 should have sutch a low RT/FT that i wouldn't work.

FYI: As per experience, I've also tried 74LC04 and it doesn't work.

@ drbizar,

hey man its fine I just know some things from experience, I'm no master circuit builder (i'm a student actually) so I accept your doubts.

granted the 04 isnt great but it works if yer desparate, saying that tho- its what I've used for 6 months. one funny thing about it though, it seems like it will not run on a power supply greater than 3.5-4 volts, wierd eh?

regards, dave.

why the 74LS14 can't be use in the flasher cable.
