Well if you have unlocked you 7600 from 3 Pay and Go
then tried to use a 2G sim you might find that it doesn't work.
well here is the solution.
I used my griffin to upload this file but you can use what ever tool you like.
once you upload this file to your phone a new menu option appears that allows you to select between 3G and 2G.

do you have to flash it to your phone? or is it like an app you install?

No flashing no installing only a "simple" file upload and extraction.
But you will a DCT-4 flashing box like a griffin to do this until somebody finds a way of doing the upload & extraction by serial cable.

I found that just doing a full factory reset with Neelix 3 does the job.
It unhides the menu and phone work ok.

How can i upload the euro zip file to my nokia 7600 so i can choose the option to switch between 2G and 3G?

Buzf, to upload the file you will a DCT-4 flashing box like a griffin until somebody finds a way of doing the upload & extraction by serial cable. (cprafferty said this above)
Or you could just buy a serial cable and do a full factory reset using fbus (http://www.gsm-technology.com/gsm.php/en,download,subpage_id,free_software,subsubpage_id,Nokia.html) software by maestro

Is there no other way of unlocking 7600? i.e. using the USB cable and additional software?

I'm afraid you cannot use a USB cable for unlocking. USB cables are used only to transport files to and from your PC. Serial cables and software are used to unlock phones.
If im wrong correct me. :)

Thank you. I tried to download the fbus software by maestro. I unzipped it but when i tried to open it, i receive an error message that says;
"Component 'MSCOMM32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid"
What does this mean? I can try and get get hold of a serial cable to do a factory rest. Also I have software v4.05. I heard a rumour that even after a hardware rest, the hidden option to select between 2G and 3G is still not available, is this true?
Thanks for your help and time.

i've got v4.05 firmware and the option appeared after a factory reset.
'MSCOMM32.OCX' is a driver file i think, that should be in your system32 directory. You should be able to get it where you got FBUS.

Hi
Where can i get a serial cable for the nokia 7600? I tried to find the driver 'MSCOMM32.OCX' from the same plae i download fbus but could not find it. Is there anywhere in the north-west of the UK who can bring out the hidden option to change between 2G and 3G?

in answer to the second part I did a search on google and found the driver and instructions on how to install it, don't remember where though...sorry

found the driver here
http://www.zerohack.it/downloads/ocx.htm
1. Copy MSCOMM32.OCX to the SYSTEM32 folder .
2. Register the file from a command prompt using the command: regsvr32
mscomm32.ocx. You should get a pop-up indicating it was registered successfully

Not only GSM, its what the default menu selection is.
GSM Mode or Dual (UTMS) Mode

out of interest can 3 do anything to you for locking your phone to the 2g network?
cprafferty

It depends.
If its pay & go then not really.
But
If it a contract phone & you terminate the contract with them, then its breach of contract.
But they just disable the IMEI on the UK networks so the phone will only work abroad so I guess wouldn't bother chasing you.

cheers but I was thinking along the line of remaining on a 3UK contract but puting your phone in GSM mode so you only use the 2g network instead of the useless 3G network. I was wondering if this would cause any problems from them as they buy the 2G service from 02.

Has anybody used Fbus by maestro to do a hardware reset on the nokia 7600? After you press read, how long does it take for the software to read the phone? I need some help using the software please.
Thanks
karanka

No need to do a read mate. Just select the right com port and press "Full Factory Reset". The phone won't restart but the hidden menu items should now be there.
