people im having trouble viewing my movies full screen, the frame rate is all fucked up (and yes its converted with divx 5.1.1. at the handheld profile!!!). Portrait mode on the other hand works fine. Could this be a matter of fine tuning the converter settings?

so,

- what codec are u using?
-and what are your settings?

thnx

Hi,

I'd also like to know, or have posted here, the settings people are using in Virtual Dub to make the AVI's instead of using the standard LCG's converter.

My Settings :

Video : 96 - 128 kbps : Xvid Encoder

Audio : Enabled : Force Mono : 16000hz : 32kbps : Lame MP3 Codec : Boost 120%

I use VirtualDub....XviD codec. 15fps. 128kbps. I found that it lags when you encode it with MP3 @ 32kbps. So i think i reduced it to about 20kbps and now its perfect. Everything is fine, except you have to adjust the audio sync in Smartmovie which is no biggie....

Hi Auswill,

I'm not a lazy git or anything :rolleyes: but could you maybe attach the .VCF settings file you use so we can load it into our Virtual Dub's? Also the Xvid codec you use or the link incase it's different to mine?

Thanks mate.

ok i found one converting mode that is working GREAT.

VIDEO part

- select the divx 5.1.1 (pro) codec);
- set device to 'portable profile' ;
- set resolution to 208 x 176 @ 12 fps;
- set encoding bitrate to 256 kbps (real good quality) or,
- set encoding bitrate to 128 kbps fot less quality but a smaller file
- select the 'reduce frames' option.
- i use the landscape mode to encode, i dont know if there is a difference with the encoding should one decide to select the portrait mode.

/edit/ forgot to mention after you have chosen the portable profile set the performance/quality to slowest i.e. all the way to the right! (this produces very small files)

AUDIO part

- select Lame mp3 encoder
- set it to 16000 Hz
- set encoding bitrate to 48 kbps. (with everything lower, the sound has a really high 'hissing' elemen't)

I'm going to convert 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' wich is 694 mb. I hope i can get it to under the 70 mb's

good luck everybody

c00per dude, that works a treat, nice one son!! I bet those settings can be tweaked a little bit perhaps but they do work well. I wonder whether the sound is a little bit better than it needs to be? I tell you what though, I converted the same Simpsons movie into 3gp for Realone and it looked totally shite, sounded shite and was near as damn it the same size. Smart movie Rocks!!!!

TeMpTeD,

How large are simpson episodes when converted with cOOpers settings?

I started with Divx which were each 140megs exactly and ended up with nigh on 22mb after. The quality of the original was better than what I watch on the tele. Once they are converted there are some blocky times when stuff is happening fast, but generally the quality is very watchable indeed. Sound quality is so much better than if you use Nokia MMC to convert to 3gp. Needless to say I have loaded my MMC up with 3 episodes for Uni tomorrow. Just need to find a cheap set of ear phones now. hehe

Hey,

With those settings I have a nice picture quality, but I cannot find a Lame Codec that works with Virtual Dub.

I just cannot get sound as yet.

Help :-?

hey cooper what filesize did u get from 694 mb

c00per
02-04-2004, 05:47 PM
i got 65,1 mb converting Fear and Loathing (picture @ 128 Kbps & sound @24 kbps) cause it's a big file.

but the sound sync isn't always good, but hey, SmartMovie let's you adjust even that.

cheers

what about your fps

c00per
03-04-2004, 01:39 AM
fps are around 12 i guess, but a funny thing is that on your pc the low framerate is more obvious then on your phone.

I prefer setting the profile up manually, compared to the default setting. At the portable profile i choose a 208 x 176 (which the program chooses automaticly when you select landscape mode (i think:))) @ 12 fps. But still with reduce frames funcion on.

Plz people, post your settings for the converter program here!

And if there is a person who would like to donate a beginners manual for Virtual DUB be my guest (for packing/converting files to a small avi file in order to play the file on our beloved symbian phones:)). I would really like to see one, especially for this piece of software since it is free.

up untill know my conclusions are that:

1. if a avi file is to big (i.e. the specs are to high) the phone's processor can't cope with it. Or in other words, the file is played back in a bad way, with bad frame rates, etc.

2. Why the big *.3gpp hype, I mean, look at the smaller file size and superior picture and sound quality of 'our' handheld/portable avi files. If the Helix project would implement a music mp3 encoder and divx/xvid encoder it would be the most used app for the symbian community, IMHO.

cheers everybody
