I posted similar thread to AAS forum, but those guys seems to be abusive paranoic, because they deleted my thread without explanation.

To my understanding, it is not illegal to make your DVD player region free. There are even legal companies (in UK and elsewhere) who are doing this for money.

I succesfully used my Nokia 6600 and Total irRemote from Psiloc to change the region of my DVD player, Pioneer DV313, from Region 2 to Region 0. I have reason to believe that this is first time ever when a Nokia 6600 was used to make a DVD player region free. I am very happy about this, so that's the reason I want to share with you this possibility.

It is pretty simple to do it, but I cannot help with other DVD players:

1. Take the lrc file from http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks.php?select=Pioneer+DV-454, Peter post from January 09 2003

2. Send it to Nokia 6600 and import it to irRemote

3. Put DVD player ON with no disk, display says "No Disc"

4. irRemote->Menu->User commands->Pioneer->region->Options->Send

5. DVD player will display "Open" (or maybe "Loading", or something else), put it in standbay with normal remote and unplug from mains for 5 seconds.

6. Plug it back and now it should be Region 0.

I don't know about other DVD players, but you can try to find the lrc file for your player on dvdrhelp.com. I heard that many Pioneer DVD players will work with lrc file for DV-454. For me it worked great.
