I have Nokia 6800, DKU-5 cable, Laptop. I want to use the 6800 as modem without subscrbing to AT&T (DATA service)GPRS (using my regular air time only). When I try to connect to my internet provider, the phone show that it is dailing the number and hear click on my 6800 and disconnect. ANY ONE CAN HELP?

The 6800 isn't a Symbian.
(I'm aware that the title says that it is; but it's not.)

I understand that my phone is not Symbian. However, I didn't get any answer in the other link. I thought there are more expertise here. I don't think the type of phone matters.

It depends on how your service provider works. If they have a system called Circuit Switch Data (CSD) then you could set it up as a modem and it will use that default gateway access point to connect (Extremely Slow BTW) But if you want to do it through GPRS which is faster you need to have a access to the GPRS gateway and have an Access Point for it. Don't think you can do it unless there is a hole in their system which you would get it for free without using minutes. But If you want to use your minutes then its with CSD and its "The Suck" Connection for normal web pages.

Apparently, AT&T don't have CSD and their GPRS is too steep for me ($0.03/kb). Their decent DATA plan is almost $80 in addition to the regular voice plan. I just signed 2 years with them for voice plan thinking it could be used also for data. I hate to say it, but I am thinking of using a back door if I can. They didn't leave choice for me. Any suggestion how I can do it?

Other than what I previously said, I don't believe there is any other way of having it pull off your rate plan other than CSD. GPRS use totally different servers and are designed for data and multimedia stuff. There would be no need for a company to link it to a Minute server. If you have a backdoor like you said, and the networks security sucks, then you might be able to get away with free GPRS. I highly doubt that would be possible with AT&T or any other big GSM company for that matter.
