Hi to all!!.

Having read the water damage repair documents I thought it responsible to point out that you must be **EXTREMELY** careful as to what chemicals/proportions you use to immerse your water damaged pcbs in.

Having had 13 years experience in the electronics industry, I would whole-heartedly agree that methylated spirits/pure alcohol are surely ok to use when cleaning the pcb, but I would **WARN** you against using white spirit as this **IS NOT** the same chemical, and it has a tendancy to dissolve adhesives very well (try removing a label with methylated spirits, THEN try white spirit - you will see the difference) and as such it may soften/dissolve or loosen any bonded components, rendering your expensive handset **USELESS!!!!**.

As for lighter fluid (refined petrol) I would, again, **WARN YOU** against its use. Oil based as it is, it is quite likely that the same situation could occur - I would therefore **NOT** recommend **ANY** usage of this chemical **ANYWHERE** on a damaged mobile phone, unless you are seeking to make the handset damaged **FURTHER!!!**.

Do not immerse **ANY** pcb in the solutions recommended, for longer than is absolutely neccessary, as the longer you leave them, the more the chemical/solution will work - either **IN** your favour to remove corrosion, or otherwise continue to eat its way through various component parts of the board.

**NOT** saying that in every single case and situation, that this **WILL** happen, it's just a precautionary warning to anyone who is unsure.

Kind Regards, Matt (UNLOKIA)

Thanks.

I find that Electrosolve Contact Cleaner works well, it is just like Isopropyl Alcohol, but dries much faster, infact, I use Isopropyl alcohol first with a toothbrush, all over the PCB (be sure to remove any LCDs first) then let it dry, then use the Electrosolve cleaner to clean it up after, that way, it makes sure all moisture is gone, Then I go over any copper contacts, and clean them lightly with an eraser or fiberglass pen. that way it assures a good contact.

If you have a phone whit water damage,
Take the battery out and leave the phone in water,
Find some methanol, (you can find it in pharmcy)
get a box where you can do the methanol in it, put you cellphone in the methanol,

water binds himself with methanol, so all the water is filtered out of the cellphone and no damage is coused to your phone,

I have tried this whit a phone and no prob,
But If you can put only the mainbord in to methanol and not the whole casing,
Can maybe cause damage to your case.

ive fiexed 2 phone with liquid damage one was beer (not mine dont ask) and the other was a mudy puddle. Both phone were cleand using pure h2o i get this from the water purification plants @ work (for dialysis patients) the water contains little or no chlorine, softened and has a low aluminium content ie no conductivity around 3 micro siemens per cu meter and its free to me!

also biggest help i found,DE-FLUX 160 spray, its aflux remover and pcb cleaner, spray over a water damaged board, wait bout 1min u then see clearly, any part thats been affected by water,as the residew left behind turns White if traces of water, clearly showing up the part/parts affected:)
this true i use it all the time, saves wasting time on the whole board,if only 1/2 parts need doing, also this a good cleaner.
