The default "Data Location" is c:\Nokia. I had similar problems until I installed
on my C: drive (which you did, so maybe this is not your issue). Alternatively,
if you can bring up PC Suite, click on "Control Panel", then click on
"Data Location" and make sure it points to a sane, existing directory name.
You might also want to make sure that it is an 8.3-safe name.
Best of luck,

it sounds like you got the pcsuite that is off an irc. go to www.nokia.com and under the download section for the 6600. or your proper phone. download there software, it will work. the one floating around out there is either buggy, or just doesn't work right.
I had the same problem, i noticed the one available on nokia's site software version, was substantially lower then the one i also got off an irc. which leads me to believe it is a hack. :D

tested both solutions
- i assume you can only click on the control panel after the connection is done, without connection i see no control panel option
- installation done with version originally on cd with the gsm and with the version on the web site, problem is same

If i read your post correctly, your using iRDA? i'm using the bluetooth connection with a bluetooth USBkey. but the functionality of mRouter should still be the same, it should automatically route your iRDA connection to link with the PC SUITE, after you connect your iRDA, does mRouter detect the connection and route it?.. the broken icon should change to a green connection signifying it is working.
By starting PC Suite i receive the message :
- Please enter a name :
- entering the standard "Nokia 6600" or other names
- always message from Econnect : You must enter a valid name
the above section from your post led me to believe you are using a downloaded version other from the nokia website. i downloaded the software from nokia, and installed the 'additional driver' it prompted upon install. <-- did you do that part? i declined it on one install once, and it didn't work right after that.
Nokia also has a clean registry program that after the pcsuite is installed, it will double check and clean itself from the windows registry. <-- did you try this after the install to make sure you have had a clean install the 2nd time around?
if your using the iRDA option, i'm assuming you are able to get a connection, with a decent signal strength which should be moniterable just like your internet bandwidth. If so the mRouter "being repetative" should notice this and route the serial port being used to work with the software. <-- once this is working ,you should be able to start up pcsuite.
just double checking everything you have done. I know your using the one off the disc. it should be the same of the website for nokia, don't think they have made changes. any luck yet? :(
