New User-nokia 3390-help?

HI,
I so totally dont have a clue and hope someone can help.
Going out of my mind trying to find out how to unlock my old Voicestream 3395 so I can use my new Cingular chip-- These newer phones are not thrilling me.... I was very happy with the 3390 *sigh*
Anyway, How do I find out if its a DCT3 or 4 (dont know what that means) and how can i unlock my phone to accept my new sim card? I have my IMEI number inside the phone but there are more than 10 digits (fyi ... I get easily confused)
Anyone who can give me some clues will earn my undying gratitude :D

And may I be the first to welcome you to Nokiafree!

Right, down to buisness. Yeah your IMEI is supposed to be over 10 digits it's 15/16. To find your IMEI number enter the following on ya phone
*#06#
Your IMEI number will be displayed.

Once you are armed with this information goto......

http://nokiafree.org/free-nokia-unlock-codes

Enter you IMEI, select the network that the phone is locked to. (Previous network!) I would guess as you are US, your GID will be 1FFF.

Thanks for the warm welcome Dave :) Truly appreciated.

Actually I found that site, however (told you I am easily confused) I never got that far.... When I turn my phone on with the (old out of service) Voicestream sim card it says menu. when i type #06# it does nothing, if I hit enter it tells me I dont have any service. If I wait long enough it says sim card registration failed. I cant get past the initial finding the number part.

Can you tell me if I am missing some tiny but apparently integral little thing ? :-?

DCT4 phone is phone with one (or more) of this options: color scren, poly tones, radio, ...

About IMEI: Do You have GSM phone?

Hello Farsh,
Thank you for responding. I am not a complete idiot I only seem to look like one. What is GSM? This phone has AOL IM capabilities, no color screen, no radio and I am not sure what a polytone is .... my 2nd phone has no IM capabilities and all the rest is the same.

GSM is a netework standart of phone. There are some GSM standarts EGSM 900, GSM, 1800 and GSM 1900.
But I think You have CDMA or TDMA phone.

ok... apparently I need to hush and be stupid...
Does anyone know where I can find two 3390 or 3395's (not sure of the diffeerence between them) reasonably priced? and accessories if possible. Ebay keeps jumping the prices on used ones....
They have to be compatible for Cingular wireless and whatever the GSM is I guess. Pretty sure thats what they upgraded my acct to.
