View Full Version : Settings for DivX video???

Hi all,
I have a 6600 with 256Mb MMC, and of course I'm interested in putting some videos to watch on my phone.. :-P
I use smartmovie as a player, but the problem is more of choosing the right format... I can't get a video that won't lag. I've tried DivX video in 172*132 (vertical) resolution, with bitrates ranging between 80kbps and 180kbps. Sound is in MP3 in mono/16kbps/11KHz. All settings lag, but the best is 100kbps. Under is awful and slower, over is beautiful but slower also.
I've also tried using full 208*176 res but it's really hopeless. The same when using XviD codec.
Does someone have experience with this around here? I've seen that some pepole have encoded movies that they manage to watch in fullscreen, so it must be possible to get a good result... how?
Thanks,
Kilrah

I wouldnt mind knowing this as every Xvid I make to run Landscape (full screen) lags :(

Hmmm... Just tried to play a video I'd made before out of my new mmc... Seems to be a little bit better in portrait mode with 100kbps. But landscape with 120kbps is still hopeless, and a lower bitrate would really be ugly at this resolution.
So maybe the card speed could be part of the problem. I was using the original 32Mb one before.

I do all my Xvid ones at 128kbps, in Portrait, with audio on, force mono, 8000Hz, 16kbps
I also tick the Reduce frames option

This may help you all a little to make better videos for Smart Movie.

jesus, u guys dont half do some fiddling with it, just download the xvid codec from the lonelycat website, use that to convert, leave settings as standard cept for say action movies lower the fps...

Tried all this (spent around 4 hours testing dozens of different settings) but never got satisfied. LCG's converter doesn't open any movie I pass to it, even if it works perfectly with all the other programs.

i'm using a different codec from the xvid. i'm at work right now, but it's a codec from directshow. it plays conversions perfectly in landscape. never bothered with portrait. You definitly have to do the skip frames feature, otherwise it will lag. I'll post up the link if not the codec itself later today once i get off work.
tomrob gots it right with the settings feature. PS. the app comes with the converter application fyi. so you select whatever codec. thing is it has to also be installed in the phone to :) so the codec has to be of an xvid type. :D

1. don't forget to go into the settings of the codec to change the bandwidth to 120kbps.
2. have the skip frames feature selected in the smartmovie converter.
3. leave the mp3 converter settings alone.
i've converted a 50meg file prior to changing the bandwidth that defaulted to 900kbps. and it wound up being 10megs.
To changing the bandwidth to 120kbps. and the file is 4.5megs.
So the converter seems to have issues overriding the codec settings even though you have the 80kbps setting checked. :)
sorry for the late post on the link. :-P

I rather keep using SmartMovie Converter 1.0... No extra settings needed, and i keep getting good results!
Settings used:
* Landscape view
* 80kbps Video
* 24kbps Audio
* 16000Hz Frequency
