How-To - Internet over PC with 6600 (wap2)

i tried the posted link and did what was written there and i just got it to run! it means my 6600 connects to my pc and CAN use its internet connection!
tried it with the nokia standard browser, opera and wirelessirc1.8!

my system is windows xp and i just followed the instructions on http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/bt-ap.html
but ill try to write step-by-step instructions :)

1. Deactivate all the Checkboxes in mRouter (at least the ones of the Bluetooth COM ports)
2. Goto Bluetooth settings and Deactivate everything else in Local services than Bluetooth serial port, note the com port you set as bluetooth serial port
3. Goto Phone and Modem options, go to "Modems" add a new one, activate "I will select it from a list"
4. choose "Communications cable between 2 Computers" from the list (in Standard Modem Types)
5. Select the COM port from step3
6. in the modem settings set maximum port speed to 115200
7. goto Network Connections and create a new connection (wizard)
8. Select “Set up an advanced connection” -> Next
9. “Accept incoming connections” -> Next
10. Check the “Communications cable between two computers” -> Next
11. Do not allow VPN connections ->
12. select a username you want to give access to your pc over Bluetooth (that’s the username you will set on the phone later)
13. in the settings of that connection go to Network select TCP/IP -> Settings
14. set the IP range to something like 10.0.2.2-10.0.2.254 or, what you like
15. Remove Internet Connection Sharing from all interfaces
16. run cmd.exe and enter the following commands:

netsh routing ip nat install
netsh routing ip nat add interface "YOUR LAN INTERFACE NAME" full
netsh routing ip nat add interface Internal private

“YOUR LAN INTERFACE NAME” has to be replaced with the name of the interface connected to the internet
the “Internal” of the last line depends on the language of your windows (e.g. german: “Intern”)

17. if there is a "Bluetooth Network" connection in Network Connections delete it

your pc should now be set correctly :)

go on with your 6600:
1. Download gnubox6600.SIS (http://nokiafree.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=12499), attached to this post (or download here (http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/gnubox6600.SIS)) and install it on your phone
2. Create a new Access Point on the phone (Setting|Connection|Access points|New access point|Use default settings).
3. Use the following settings for it:

a. Name: Bt. The name is important, the software will look for it.
b. Data Bearer: GSM data
c. Dial-up number: e.g. 2222. It doesn't matter what you have here as long as it's not empty
d. Username: the username you gave access to the incoming connection earlier
e. Promp password: No
f. Password: password for the user on Windows
g. Authentication: Normal
h. Advanced Settings: Use Login Script Yes
i. Advanced Settings: Login Script

CHARMAP [windows-1252]
LOOP 10
{
SEND "CLIENT"+<0x0d>
WAIT 3
{
"SERVER" OK
}
}
EXIT KErrNoAnswer$

OK:
EXIT

be careful that you get it exactly as show here, including linebreaks. You could save it to a file, send to the phone and copy-paste to the settings.
j. Advanced Settings: Use PPP Compression Yes
4. run the program you installed at step1 (gnubox)
5. inside gnubox: Options-> 2box Direct -> Bluetooth, select your computer, leave gnubox running in background
6. run the nokia wml browser select "Bt" as access point and connect :D

thats all i did... sounds much now but i think it was worth the time i needed :)
i hope i could help you guys set this thing up
btw i just streamed a live tv to my 6600 over bluetooth with real helix :)

netsh routing ip nat add interface Internal private" i am getting errors while at this stage,it is telling me that
The interface ''Internal'' does not exist.
An interface with this name is not registered with the router.
i am using win2K by the way and i am on cable so the lan interface part do i put the newly created connection name or my default lan connection name?anyway i have tried both but they fail, any help would be deeply appreciated

i know theres a connection there coz i can see the gprs bubble (just like when u make or recive a call) and my pc screen goes weird when my phone is close to it... u know what i mean. but this phone number thing makes it not work!

i put in 2222 as phone number btw. just like the tut sed

Edit: ok i changed the number to 1111 and now it just ses "ERROR invalid DNS value spevified"

I am on 56k dial-up and I do not seem to find my lan interface name from Network Connections. My Network Connections shows three headings:

Dial-up
Incoming
Wizard

Dial-up lists the name of two dial-up ISP connections I use.
Incoming shows the new connection that I just created following this guide.
Wizard is the old WinXP New Connection thing.

Somebody help me please.Please.

I had a problem which I coulnt figure out for ages but finally have it working now too.

My problem was when trying to do the accept incoming connections in step 9, it said it couldnt start routing and remote access. The solution to this is to install client for microsoft networks.

Go to:

My Computer -> My Network Places -> View Network connections

right click on Local Area Connection -> Properties

Install -> Cleint -> Add

Cleint for Microsoft Networks

Also when doing the adding your 6600 access point settings, remember you can add settings in the PC suite.
This makes it a lot easier as you can just copy and paste the script in part 3i:

Connect to the phone to mrouter in the usual way
(you will have disable the incoming connection temporily and enable your mrouter com port):

- network connections -> Incomming connections
right click -> properties
uncheck "communications cable between two computers"

- right click on mrouter and re-enable your normal com-port
connect in normal way

- pc suite -> settings wizzard -> next
change phone settings manually -> Remote connections -> add new

- Add the connection as stated in part 3
Note the data type you want is the bottom one (HSCSD).

- Now disable the com port in mrouter again
and re-enable the incomming connections check box just disabled

Note you will still have to enter the password on the phone.

Hope this helps.
Good luck ;)

The GNUbox works and the screen turns blue, but i get: Could not connect, check your settings error, when trying to connect.

For those of you having trouble deleting the "Bluetooth Network" Icon, you can't. You just have to right click the icon and select "Disable"

And then it didnt work. I uninstalled agile. still didnt work. I then went through the whole list again doing all from scratch. alas, no joy.

Any suggestions... please... ?

Well now i tried this, and now i actually can see i get connection with the computer. But it says:

<Ikke-godkendt-bruger> >> <Not-reconized-user> (or something like that)

And that crap - i'm 100% sure i wrote the right username and password.
There is one thing; when i open the properties for users in the incomming connections dialog - the password (in *'s) is much longer than the password i added for that user. Is that for securerity reasons, or am i doing something wrong?

i use gnubox because it is far superior to the other BT -> Internet method.

firstly it allows me to use the built in wap browser, removing the need for some 3rd party browser. :-P

secondly, the method of initiating the connection is much more convenient. i can automatically pair up with my PC using gnubox instead of having to go to my pc and manually pair up. ;)

thirdly, just because i want to!

hell that's why i installed gnubox on the ngage! :-x

after all gnubox was originally developed for S60 v6.1 phones, and it was only recently modified to work with v7.0. read up man

You probably all realised this anyways, but once you have run gnuBox once and got it working, the settings are saved to the phone. This means you dont have to run gnuBox when you want to use it.

In fact you dont need to run it ever again really, unless you make changes to your access points or something like that.

This sounds like somethings wrong with the routing commmands entered - as the phone is connecting to the pc but external packets arent being sent to the phone. Try reseting them like this

netsh routing ip nat uninstall
netsh routing ip reset

and then re-enetering the initial three commands

netsh routing ip nat install
netsh routing ip nat add interface "YOUR LAN INTERFACE NAME" full
netsh routing ip nat add interface Internal private

“YOUR LAN INTERFACE NAME” has to be replaced with the name of the interface connected to the internet
the “Internal” of the last line depends on the language of your windows (e.g. german: “Intern&#8221

I need help, my pc uses german language what have I to write?
Is: "netsh routing ip nat add interface Intern” private" ok?
caus it doesn´t work

My second problem is that, after I type the second line, there comes up:
One port with this name wasn´t registered for this router!

Is this ok?

Thx

Type the following into a command box

netsh interface show interface
and you should see something like this:

C:\>netsh interface show interface

Admin State State Type Interface Name
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enabled Dedicated Bluetooth Network
Enabled Dedicated 1394 Connection
Enabled Dedicated Local Area Connection
Enabled Dedicated Local Area Connection [802.3]
Enabled Internal Internal
Enabled Loopback Loopback

As you can see I have the english version of XP so Internal is shown as just that - what you need is what it says for the Interface name for the Internal entry.

Hope that helps.

I got it working with Windows XP, altough I was hoping it'd work with linux because now I have to connect through my laptop.. Well, anyway I'm not sure if this helps but I set my DNS servers manually in the phone (the same place where you define the proxy) and no need for proxy here.

Agiler Messenger & Wireless IRC work without problems :)

I envy you. I'm still could not get the thing to work with WinXP or Win2k without using a proxy.

Anyway, I was able to make it work with Linux. Posted my lengthly and confusing step trail at http://www.rlachenal.com/bluetooth-6600-linux/

Hope it helps.

I can't get it to work..

Just a question to start up when it says :
netsh routing ip nat install
netsh routing ip nat add interface "YOUR LAN INTERFACE NAME" full
netsh routing ip nat add interface Internal private

"ip" should be replaced or not???? for my part I haven't and it doesn't work..

Second question: Should I untick all the port in mrouter?? to get it to work?

Other question: when i try a connection in opera i can see my phone trying to call 2222!! it says something like "number cannot be used or dialed up"..

FAct: i keep an eye on my Network Connections for incoming connection (showing details) it always stated: No clients connected :((

4th question: Is there a gateway ip adress to put in the configuration of the nokia ?

Last one : In direct connection, 10.0.2.1 - 10.0.2.254 equals to what? to the range of ip of the nokia 6600??

Those question might be questions of noob but really .. im trying to get the whole thing.. and later i will write a NOKIA 6600 INET over BT for noobs :)

Thx for replying me

>"ip" should be replaced or not???? for my part I haven't and it doesn't work..
It should not be replaced. ip is part of the command

>Second question: Should I untick all the port in mrouter?? to get it to work?
Yes, all of them should be unticked.

>Other question: when i try a connection in opera i can see my phone trying
to call 2222!! it says something like "number cannot be used or dialed up"..
Sometimes gnuBox has a bug that causes this to happen. Try setting selected 2box, direct, and Infrared in the menu, and then 2box, direct and bluetooth again. That will usually sort this out. If it doesnt fiddle some more like this and you should get it working. This problem was very annoying for me! I think when it works gnuBox will actually remove the number from the access point and if you try and edit it in the normal access point thing, it will moan and say it needs a number when you try and go back- so don't try after its working! (if you do, just switch phone off and on again).

>FAct: i keep an eye on my Network Connections for incoming connection (showing details) it always stated: No clients connected :((
You wont due to above problem.

>4th question: Is there a gateway ip adress to put in the configuration of the nokia ?
No this isnt needed.

>Last one : In direct connection, 10.0.2.1 - 10.0.2.254 equals to what? to the range of ip of the nokia 6600??
Yes, the ip given to the 6600 will be somewhere in this range. When works, you can see the address assigned by clicking on the taskbar dial up icon and selecting details. My network starts on 192.168.0.* so I use 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.200 to keep it close (for convience).

hi,

got it to work eventually - thanks to everyone

few things i noticed..

- ip nat etc etc commands didn't work till i restarted computer, so don't panic if you get a "nat not installed" message
- disabling the bluetooth lan access server wasn't enough - I had to go into Device Manager (right click on My Computer -> Manage -> Device Manager) and uninstall the driver.
- use the "select irda" then "select bluetooth" trick to get the connection set - the phone number should disappear - and then select the access point - phone should open the BT connection by itself if all is well

Good luck!

hi guys
u r doing a great job here.

i am a newbie and i have got confused after reading this complete thread.
i have winxp with sp2
my nokia 6600 OS ver 4.09.1
i am connected to internet via vpn connection which give me ip in range 172.x.x.x

i am connected to my isp via a lan connection with my ip set to 10.64.7.124

i also have a internal lan(home) which is setup in ip range 192.168.0.x .
and the internet connection is shared on the above network using internet sharing provided by winxp.

(local connection 4) is the bluetooth network server.

here is what my pc shows after the command "netsh interface show interface"
C:\netsh interface show interface

Admin State State Type Interface Name
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enabled Dedicated Local Area Connection 4
Enabled Dedicated Home
Enabled Dedicated Fortunenet
Enabled Dedicated Local Area Connection 6
Enabled Internal Internal
Enabled Loopback Loopback

so please guide me on how do i go about connecting to internet on phone using my pc connection.also i read somewhere in the post that internet sharing has to be disabled.
but can this be bypassed coz or elese my internal network wont work as this pc provides ips to all other pc in the internal network.

hope to get reply.
also sorry for troubling u guys and wasting your precious time.

thank you

When completing the command "netsh interface show interface" all i recieve are these results leaving me with no interface to use, whats wrong..

Admin State State Type Interface Name

Enabled Connected Loopback Loopback
Enabled Connected Internal Internal

When i enter "Realtek" which is what displayed after the command "netsh interface ip show config" i still cant use this as the interface..

Any ideas on what im doing wrong..

Im using Windows 2000 Pro (latest drivers)

Type the following into a command box

netsh interface show interface
and you should see something like this:

C:\>netsh interface show interface

Enabled Dedicated 1394 Connection
Enabled Dedicated Local Area Connection
Enabled Dedicated Local Area Connection [802.3]

As you can see I have the english version of XP so Internal is shown as just that - what you need is what it says for the Interface name for the Internal entry.

Hope that helps.
I have the English version of W2k, and I get:
Admin State State Type Interface Name
--------------------------------------------------------------
Enabled Connected Loopback Loopback
Enabled Connected Internal Internal
Enabled Connected Dedicated Local Area Connection

I type netsh routing ip nat add interface "Internal" full and it says The interface 'Internal' does not exist. An interface with this name is not registered with the router, what should I do???

Hey, finally got it to work with my 6670. Now I can connect to Internet. AgileMessenger is also working.
Hurray!!!

Note: PC Suite using BT can also work concurrently. BUT you have to connect your phone to Internet FIRST before you connect PCSuite using BT.

This ONLY applies to those using cable modem/adsl with a ROUTER installed (i.e. your cable/adsl modem is connected to WAN port on the router). If you dont have a router, I suggest you invest in one since it is very cheap now.

Phone:
1. Do as previous instructions
2. Set Phone IP to "Automatic"
3. Set "Primary Server" IP to your gateway/router IP. (In your PC run command ipconfig/all to get IP).
(Run the following steps after you setup your PC)
5. On your bluetooth and pair your phone to PC. Set to "Authorised"
6. Run Gnubox. Click Install->Create Records. EXIT GnuBox. Run Gnubox again. You should see something like "BTCOMMS:5". Click 2Box->Direct->Bluetooth. exit gnubox.
7. Run your browser and browse and external site. You should see your phone connect to BT (icon on PC turn green). You should also see a network connection icon in the "Network Connections" (open the Status to see traffic). Happy SURFING.

PC:
1. Ensure your PC Suite is not using BT connect. In PC Suite "Manage connections", uncheck this option.
1. In BT cfg "Local Services" ensure only "Serial Port" is set to auto start and secure. Set the rest to manual start. Restart your BT service.
1. Add modem - pls see previous instruction
2. Add network connection - see previous instruction
---In Network tab->TCPIP , set to automatic IP and check "Allow caller to access local area network"
---In User tab -> DO NOT check the "Allow connect... without password"
3. Run "Regedit.exe". Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\tcpip\parameters. Set the value of IPEnableRouter to "1".
4. Restart your PC

i've had the same problem, i hadn't named the access point correctly, should be "Bt" not Bt(01) as i'd got it. That fixed it.

LOOP 10
{
SEND "CLIENT"+<0x0d>
WAIT 3
{
"SERVER" OK
}
}

[QUOTE=PhreeZ]"i use gnubox because it is far superior to the other BT -> Internet method.

firstly it allows me to use the built in wap browser, removing the need for some 3rd party browser."

Hi Ive managed to set up gnubox to allow me to use the very limited trial of doris browser via bluetooth using the following instructions but i cant access the internet via my in built wap browser. It seems to connect to the bluetooth but doesnt load anything. Your post seems to indicate that it is possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Nathan

"Make sure PC Suite works with bluetooth.

DO NOT configure your mRouter to connect on the same serial port as your bluetooth usb dongle.

Download the gnubox application and install it on your phone.
http://www.raywalk.com/upload/1/8/gnubox.sis

Now you will have to set up the PC connection on your phone:
Settings->Connection->GPRS->Accesspoint [Put name of PC here] Don't forget this!

Create a new Access Point on the phone: Setting->Connection->Access points->New access point->Use default settings

Name: Bt
Data Bearer: GSM data (This is NOT GPRS! you have to change it)
Dial-up number: 2222
Username: RasUser
Promp password: No
Password: pass
Gateway IP Address: 169.254.1.68
Homepage: http://www.google.com/wml

Install gnubox.sis on your phone.

NOW YOU PUT ON YOUR BLUETOOTH.

Run the gnubox application and select:
Options->2box Direct--->Bluetooth.
Now the gnubox application WILL SEARCH FOR YOUR PC!!!!!
It should list the new settings and switch to a light BLUE BACKGROUND if you see this everything works OK. [/B]"
