There are a lot of posts referring to problems with the 3510 and 3510i interacting with software. The most common problem is a faulty cable (I have had several- so I know!)

The advantage being- they will make sure it works with software (They write LogoManager, MobiMB, Mobius, PolyPhonix etc and deal with PC Suite, Oxygen etc all the time- so they test the cables vigorously), and any problems they will deal with instantly. I think they are one of the few companies left who actually treats you as an individual rather than just another customer :)
I bought this cable from them when it was at the higher price of 14.95 GBP, and before that it was 19.95 GBP. You can get them cheaper elsewhere, but this one has already lasted me 6 months and can be seen to be of a higher quality than the others I had. I am considering buying a spare!- If I never need it, I can always give it to one of my nephews! For less than a tenner, it is great. :-D
