Here's something worth trying, especially if you have T-Mobile. They are known to do this. Call your provider's Customer Care department and explain to them that you are going on a trip and wish to use your phone overseas. They usually will provide you with an unlock code to accomodate your trip. Worst case scenario, they say no. You can try calling back and speaking to other reps until someone does it for you, or buy a code/clip. But getting it from your provider is FREE.

as far as i know provider unlocks your phone only after the period of yur contract with them has overpassed 1 year.
