Symbian hack: Series 60 phones can do WiFi

They’ve done it again: a group of mobile phone freaks have analysed Nokia’s Series 60 firmware and found references to wireless LAN functionality.
Further analysis revealed code that allows for re-tuning the bluetooth chipset to enable WLAN mode.
Technical background: wireless LAN and bluetooth both operate in the 2.4 GHz spectrum, so they share the same core technology.
Although the range will not match that of dedicated WLAN cards,
it should be good enough for sitting in a cafe and browse web pages with Opera, far faster than it ever could be with GPRS. First tests have shown transfer rates
up to 2.4 MBit/s.

There have been no comments by Nokia yet as to how they intended to use the technology in the first place.

The patch will work with the following list of Nokia phones only (you can check the firmware version by typing ”*#0000#&#8221:



Nokia 3650 (NHL-8) v 4.13
Nokia 3660 (NHL-8) v 4.57
Nokia 6600 NHL-10 V 3.44.1
Nokia N-Gage (NEM-4) v 4.03

Ya no joke.. I need to get my firmware updated. Thats why in flashing forums im asking for change logs of 3.15, I already have the log of 4.15 but I need to make nokia belive I have a LEGIT reason to upgrade when I send it in.. otherwise they wont.. They try to pull a "Your Win95 works fine, we see no reason to upgrade you to Win98" type thing.. despite its a UPDATE, unless something is wrong with your phone, they dont upgrade it unless your lucky to have a service center around...

But I wonder if thats Wireless B or G.. been trying to dig up more news on this but its tad recent.. april..

Only one issue I see right now is that page.

seems to be having issues right now.. the page works and so, and the wap.allaboutsymbian.com works, I think that php address is wrong.

But thats why im posting.. to see if there is more info on this or what.

Ok dug up some more info.. this might have been a Aprils Fools joke. Not 100% sure about that but could be just a hoax.. but then again, I never knew a Linksys Router could run a unix client either till recently..
