aloha,
this problem is already known to the nokia developers and seems to have different reasons depending on the combination of mmc-type, firmware-version and other factors.
let's see if the next firmware update will help with this issue, make sure you have the latest firmware V3.15 now.
data fragmentation and/or file structure errors in general (especially when accessed very often) on the mmc can happen too and also increase or even cause such problems.
reformatting the mmc should be helpful here but you should make sure to do this the correct way to avoid running in more worse problems than there are now:
1. don't forget to backup your data on the mmc before, especially backup the file in the root folder that has the ending .dat and the file attributes HA, the name of the file can contain letters and numbers.
2. only format the mmc in the phone you will use it in later and not in the card-reader or another phone and make sure you name it MMC (in uppercase letters!) before you format it and after the format is over do this again, after rebooting the phone you can type in the name you like for the mmc.
3. when the mmc works fine in the phone you should check if the file mentioned above is written back to the mmc, if it is not then write this file back to the mmc first.
you should only change folder names or create new folders in the phone and not on the pc.
4. it is always a good idea to clean the contacts of the mmc and the contacts in the phone from time to time.
5. it may help to not fill the mmc up to the last bit with data ;)
theoretically you can use mmc-types up to 512 mb (others say up to 1 gb but i have never seen a 1 gb mmc ...) but especially when using a mmc above 256 mb you should only use the highest quality you can get to avoid conflicts, some brands are known to cause many problems or are totally incompatible, better check some compatibility tests before buying, you will find more info on this special topic at many large support sites.
hope this helps.
