Sim card registration

I got a new o2 sim card to replace a lost one and i can't get it to work in my 3330, all i get is 'sim registration failed'. My original phone was a 7210 but this sim card has never been used before. Anyone know any reason why this shouldn't work? the 3330 is unlocked but it used to be orange.

this appears when the phone is unable to authanticate the imei of the phone/sim number with the network,it has nothing to do with the condition of the phone.. (IF THE PHONE IS COMPLETELY AND PROPERLY UNLOCKED)
