Hello :)

Yesterday my Nokia 7110 decided to hang up on me. When i came home from work, it was sitting there displaying "Insert SIM card". It did that before, the holder is a bit flimsy.

I took the SIM out, re-inserted it and powered up the phone. Now it went into "SIM card rejected". Aha, something new.

I tried another SIM.... also "SIM card rejected" !!! Both of the SIM's were AIS pre-paid ones.

I then tested with a D-TAC... no problem!

Then i tested with my boyfriend's AIS post-paid - no problem as well!

THEN i tested each of the pre-paid ones in my boyfriend's phone... no problem as well!

So all of a sudden my 7110 does not like pre-paid AIS SIM's anymore. I went on to re-flash it with a FuBu - same problem still. Flashed a different SW version - same problem still. Today i then flashed a virgin eeprom - and STILL the same trouble! It rejects both my AIS pre-paid, but takes any other, inclusive AIS post-paid. Oh, btw, i DID try it with unlocking, needless to say (since it wasn't locked from the start) - no success.

Now it is wednesday late evening here, and if i don't havce it working by saturday morning, i am going to buy a non-Nokia. I am fed up with Nokia now, sort of. My boyfriend's 7250 also starts to play up, it's just a year old. Nokia, where is the quality..?? My old 5130 is better than any of the new ones!

Anyone knows how can i get this problem solved? I need the 7110 to accept the AIS pre-paid which was in there all the time. And - this happened all alone while i was not even near the phone! The phone itself "decided" not to like those SIM's anymore. And... why BOTH of them?? The second one hasn't been in there, ever..............

Please, someone help me out... since i actually like the 7110 quite much :)

Kind regards....

your Thanh

Hi there :)

After some intense googling, i was able to find a solution.... it seems that the problem was caused by the physical aspects of those pre-paid AIS SIM's, which are a tiny bit thinner than any other. So there was no real contact between the SIM and the reader - even cleaning the SIM did not help, but -

bending the reader's metal tongues did the trick!

Now my 7110 again accepts just about any SIM. Still i am now going to get another jap phone - i am using my Sanyo since 9 months already on a daily basis and yet no problems with it whatsoever, it never shuts itself down, resets or hangs, and it's got more features than most Nokia's. Sorry Nokia - but quality is what i'm looking for, and the current Nokia models just don't offer me that. Still i'll keep this 7110 and the old faithfull 5130, which never let me down as well :)

Kind regards....
