I have two phones: #1 - my own, #2 - my friends. #1 has the latest software version (that I am aware of) which 5.57. #2 has software version 4.45.

Using 'Nokia DCT3 flasher', I tried a simple read from #1 and wrote this to #2 (I backed both up, of course). All works, except #2 has the same IMEI as #1 - I have a problem with this.

So I searched for the IMEI in raw hex in a hexeditor - both were in two seperate locations. So I copied #2 and pasted in the position where #1 had it's IMEI number. Uploaded the flash. #2 told me me to "Contact Service" or similar words as soon as I powered-up.

Anyhow, I have restored #2 until I can think of a solution to this little annoyance.

I should add that I am a newbie at this (one day old), so go easy!

Any links, advice or ideally what-to-do is greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys!

Speaking of updating the firmware, a phone I have, 3310, is version 4.18. Everytime I flash to latest 5.57, it wipes out user memory (like ringtones, profiles etc), how can I either a) prevent it from happening, or b) back everything up to restore it later? Oxygen doesn't seem to do anything with ringtones... or profiles.

My two objectives are:

1) Upgrade 3310 from v4.18 to v5.57 ( and keep as 3310)
2) Retain ALL user settings.

If anyone can recommend anything, maybe there is a perfect way of flashing the files without overwriting, or maybe I can back up data....

Any help would be great.

Cheers
Simon
