I'm trying to use my friends T-Mobile(voicestream) Nokia8290 Phone with my Cingular sim card. I have unlocked the phone using a DTC-3 calculator. The phone works fine with a t-mobile sim card, but when i put the cingular in, it doesnt get any service... at all. I tried to access the "Services" menu option, which according to the manual should be Menu-4-5-4, but when i type that into the menu it says "invalid menu option". If i go into menu 4-5 and scroll down it skips over number 4. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to unlock the services menu. Thanks.

the menu options availble in nokia phones often depends on what the sim will let you see.

For example with pay as you go in the UK, you cannot in most cases access the call waiting or call divert options, due to you pay to divert a call which you wouldn't be able to do if you ran out of credit.

Not saying this is your problem but it may be.

The way to find out is fully flash the phone this should bring the menus back, if it doesn't then what i surgested could be to blame

and also check your service area. i heard that cingular mainly uses 850 band.
you cannot use your 8290 since it has only 1900 band..

Thank's for all your help so far.

Well, it's time for an update. I called Cingular yesterday to see if they had any suggestions for getting my phone working. I asked about the menu option being missing and i was told "cingular doesnt support that option." Alright, thats one question answered, now why wont my phone work? All they did to help get my phone working was tell me to reset the defaults. Then they told me to try another cingular sim card in the phone, and if that doesnt work to call back tomorrow. So i called them back, still no help. They told me to change the SMS Messaging number. That didn't do anything, so they told me to goto the store and see if they can get it working. I went to the Cingular store and the girl says "Cingular doesn't support that phone."

Heres my question: Will a Cingular SIM card work in an unlocked T-Mobile phone? If not, will it work if i flash the phone?
