I'm gunna buy a Nokia 3650 too see what all the Symbian fuss is about. Yeah, I relise there old now and that, but I'm not going to buy a top of line one when I don't even know if I actually need/want a Symbian phone, so this is more of just a tester to see if I want to invest in that upcomming Nokia Symbian flip-phone!
A few, hopefully quick, questions:
1. I'm sure I've previously seen on here that playing mono MP3's on Nokia 3650 is possiable, anyone want to please tell me how? I did do a search for "mp3 3650", got 20 pages of results, and went through 7 to find nothing helpful...
2. Where do I find out what the largest capacity MMC is that I can use with it?
3. What's the best way to connect the phone to my computer to transfer games and MP3's and that? I currently have a DKU-5 Data Cable, will this do the job? Or is infra-red or bluetooth better?
4. Anyone got a recomendation or two for a few games to put on the unit to "show off it's features/capabilites".
I relise some of this stuff has preiously been covered, and I will look for it, but thanks for any help!

I don't get that, are you suggesting I buy MMC's in every size avaliable and test which is the maximum size that works? I don't have the finances to do that, sorry.
Likewise I can't afford to buy a variety of infra-red, bluetooth, and data cables to figure out which is the best to connect the phone to the computer.
Hence the reason why I am asking, from other poeples experiences, what they have found.

1. Get Ultra Mp3
2. I've heard of people using 1Gb mmc's but i'm not too sure about them, 512Mb ones work but if I were you i'd stick with the 256Mb.
3. Your cable won't work get bluetooth or a card reader (or both, they aren't expensive).
4. Get Geopod, Doom and Sonic N

Thanks for the replies yuppo, that's what I'm looking for! :-D
A few further questions on your ansers if you don't mind.
2. Why stick with a 256Mb MMC over a larger capacity one? Are they more reliable? Does the phone load/run slower with the larger capacity cards?
3. With a bluetooth adapter on my computer I can add files and such onto the MMC card in my phone right? What program should I use to do this?
And just a seperate question, how large is an application such as Doom or Ultra MP3 usually? Like how much room would one of them take up on the MMC?

I own a 3650 now and it's been incredible - get one. Imma get the 6630 soon as I can. Anyway, answers to ur questions.
1. Use a program called UltraMP3. You can buy it from the Lonely Cat Games site or try to find it for... well.... a 100% discount on a yahoo group. Just go to the yahoo groups page and search for symbian, 3650, 6600, etc. Find a few sites that look promising and join them. Then reap the rewards. If you have the software, you might want to compress the MP3's first.
2. SOME 512MB cards work. But if you're short on funds and want a little more security, use a 256. I personally am stuck with a 128 and an extra 64. The god of MMC cards hates me, I think.
3. Bluetooth, hands down. Go out and get yourself a 20 or 30 dollar (american) BT dongle. It's faster, easier in terms of the interface, and more versatile (e.g. bluetooth printers and keyboards).
4. Mkay, it's important to note that there are two types of games. Java games (.jar) and symbian games (.sis). Both work for symbian. To install Java games, send them to ur phone and go to Apps in the main menu. Click over to the install menu and it'll find the games on your phone. For Symbian games, send them to the phone and either install them from the messages inbox OR after it automatically sends them to the program manager, go to Tools>Manager and install it there. Anyway, here's the games I like most:
Splinter Cell (.jar)
Geopod (.sis)
Doom (uses like 5 .sis files)
Siberian Strike (.jar)
Any MGS games (.sis) - These work under a program called MGS (magic game station). First install the MGS program, then install the games. Good MGS games are: Cobra Attack, Virtual Pool, MGS cart racing, pretty much any MGS game is good.
Oh, and you can play movies full screen with a prorgam called Smart Movie. Search the forum for info on how to use it, it's incredible. Full length movies on ur cell phone...
PM me and I'll help you out with some of these programs or any info u need.

sorry, forgot to include that a file managing program is the most important thing you can have. Use either FileManager or SeleQ. Use yahoo groups to get what you need, but those programs let you alter the files of the phone as if it was a computer (i.e. you can see every file and move them, etc.)

Just came back from a GOOD night, so i'm a lil buzzed still... okay more than a little, but it's all good. Anyway, no problem, I just want EVERYONE to be able to enjoy the happiness of symbian!!!
Seriously though, it's a badass OS for phones and doesn't have microsoft anywhere in it, so it's a good thing. It's the perfect happy medium for people who want more than a phone and less than a 600 dollar PDA. And with the 6630, the fact that you can have broadband, 1.3megapixel camera, video and music, games, and a helluva phone all in one beautiful package is an incredible thing. Hell, some of the symbian phones have more functionality than the most expensive palms. And the range of programs and accessories available makes them the true all-in-one devices. Hope the 3650 proves my point to you.

Ok, so my 3650, bluetooth dongle and 256MB MCC are on there way now.
As recomended, I'm gunna put Ultra MP3 on to play my MP3's, FileManager, and for games Geopod, Doom, Sonic N, Splinter Cell and Siberian Strike.
Is there anything else anyone recomends? E.g. I've heard of programs to upgrade the camera and video camera or to add sound on quality or length or something? And can anyone tell me about the Remote Control program?
Also, what program do you use to watch movies on the phone, and where do you get movies from?

Camera programs: There's one program called photo accute, it creates a megapixel picture by taking four separate pictures and using a helluva complicated algorithm to combine them into one with higher detail. It's useless though, you have to hold the phone for too long and it takes like 15 minutes to process each picture.
Video camera progs: My favorite is ETI camcorder, but there's also Mobiclip and PV something or other; i don't know them all, you can search the forum for them. Anyway, all of these allow videos of unlimited length and direct recording onto MMC (anyone correct me if I'm wrong). Plus in my opinion they make the vids look better. But be aware that they record into wierd formats so you might have a hard time watching the videos on anything other than you phone.
Movies: Ah, the good old movies-on-ur-phone question. Mkay, it's been settled that the best method for watching videos is a program called smart movie. Note: this has been removed from Aiva net and you will only be able to find it on IRC. Also, you'll need to install a special xvid codec that comes in .sis format. Now in terms of video conversions (so that you can compress the videos and convert them to the right file format) there's a few options. First there's the converter that comes with Smart Movie. It's ridiculously user friendly and you should be able to find your way through it with no problems. However MY solution is to use a more complicated program called Virtual Dub. This is an all inclusive video conversion program... that's free. No cracks, no hacks, no warez, Virtual Dub is freeware, and if you've got the video codec for it, virtual dub will convert it to that format. But it requires that you find the LameMP3 codec and the newest Divx (versoin 5.1.1 or higher) codec and install them both on ur comp. Even then it'll take some getting used to and some reading up on. And some conversions are a little touchy due to some sound issues. You can find a shit load of info here http://nokiafree.org/forums/t62688/h/s.html
Games: Look for MGS games. Great, all of them. I can't tell you how much I play Tetris, Minesweeper, Cobra Attack, and 9 ball pool in class.
Hope you find what ur lookin for. Haha, I like this thread actually, it reminds me of how good Symbian is and what it was like when I first started usin my 3650.
