=====

Hello.

Seems this forum is populated by technically savvy Symbian users... well that's exactly what we need. Do you want to help testing a cool new bluetooth app? Then read on... thanks!

BriCenter S.A. is pleased to announce the availability of the second public beta version of MeetingPoint, a multi-platform (*) bluetooth contacting application.

Its main purpose is to help people find each other in mobile situations or on crowded public places, even when it's the first time they meet. Just tune your MeetingPoint to a previously agreed channel and it will fire an audible alarm when both parties are within bluetooth working range.

MAJOR UPDATE - This version supports more PDA/phones and implements a new messaging mode. Now it's able to send messages to devices not running MeetingPoint.

(*) currently: Symbian, PocketPC 2003, PalmOS, PC/Windows.

Some extra information: (from the web site)

MeetingPoint follows the CB-style paradigm of channels, where people on the same channel are able to send messages to each other.

It's useful for:

- Arranging a meeting with someone you don't know in person (e.g. virtual friends from a chat room). Just tune your MeetingPoint to a previously agreed channel, and go to the meeting point (airport, crowded pub, etc). When you are within range, both MeetingPoints will fire audible alarms, making you aware of the other party's location.

- Contacting like-minded people, or pals sharing your interests, religion or preferences.

- Mass-sending a message to everybody within range, not just MeetingPoint users.

I tested this on my 6600, ngage and pc. It seemed to work pretty well although it can take up to 30 seconds for it to recongise other devices sometimes. Another thing that cheesed me off was that it could only be installed to phone memory but i suppose that'll get fixed. Also, I couldn't get any of them to send a message to my 3650.

well the idea is nice, but the messaging system is rather uncomfy & menu isn't really handy.
Change the menu ,more options & better messaging system and u should be in bussiness

This is a nice idea ... but it requires our bluetooth to be always on; are we going to be exposed to danger of virus infection as what Cabir has done? Does this MeetingPoint app has a built-in anti virus to protect the users? :???:

Cabir sends itself just like you send any .SIS file to your phone, only it comes from an untrusted device.

To get infected you have to accept a file from an untrusted device and run it!

Now, I don't know about you, but I get hundreds of .EXE, .COM, .SCR, .PIF, etc, files by email every day. All of them virus/worms. Never ran one of them, never got a virus.

I've had a few errors with meeting point. A few times when i've exited the app on my 6600 it has crashed and once it crashed on my ngage when I wasn't doing anything.

Could you please provide more details? What were the exact error messages on the 6600 and N-Gage?

Thanks,
Fernando.

Just the standard app closed error on both of them "app closed mtp" or something.

Just to let you know we just released MeetingPoint 0.94

Now the "bluejacking" feature also works on Symbian and PalmOS (previously it was only supported on the PC and PocketPC versions).
