i accidentally re-formatted my memory card using my PC, it started when i installed skinz in my phn and started to encounter certain problems until i cant seem to open my phone due to errors occured, i found out that my memory card is the one responsible for that error, whenever i remove my mem card i can now open my phn normally, so i decided 2 plug my phn to my PC using usb cable, then i re-formatted my mem card using my PC, the nxt think i noticed is that whenever i plug my phn 2 my PC the PC did not detect my phn, i tried 2 plug my phn 2 different PC still the PC doesnt detect my phn, i tried using other MMcard and its ok the pc detects the other MMcard even in my own PC, whenever a frien sends some picts or games via bluetooth i can still store it in my MMcard but still any PC cant detect it whenever i try plugging it, what should i do ??? please help me....

get a card reader or partition software and reformat the card as fat16

make sure you set a fat16 partition before you format it

then all will be well again ;)

cheers ;)

Hi, Im not sure if this is a memory card problem or what, since Im kinda new using an N-Gage...but my phone shows only two menus Bluetooth and Games..and it shows offline near the clock...an no other application choices are shown...whether I put a memory card in or not...it does play games though (with the right memory game card) and it can still receive Bluetooth transfers...can this be fixed with the "right" memory card?

Anybody know what's wrong with the fone? Is it software related? or hardware..nothing seems wrong with it except it doesn't seem to accept my T-Mobile sim card.

Thanks for any replies on this!

Where else, but at eBay :P ....demo firmware? Nah, I don't think its a demo (I hope not!) it doesnt "feel" like one...I mean, I checked the IMEI or SN on the Nokia support site and it has valid SN...and still under warranty...unless... someone messed with it...is there a demo firmware :???: If it is....can I change/recover it?:???:

Did you try formatting the phone?

Or maybe a sort of flight mode...

I have a similar problem..I have a 128 mmc on my ngage, previously it can be detected by the usb cable which came in the box. But now it can't be detected.
Don't know if it has got to do with the FW upgrade, I previously f*cked up my fone while copying the contacts.cdb of my 7610 and transferred it on my n-gage...we'll that's a different story.
So here's the deal, whenever I install large amount of files on my MMC via card reader and insert it back to my ngage my fone won't start up..it says Device Start-up Failed, Contact retailer. I installed several apps first and tried to reboot it, still has 120mb free space, works fine! But after installing 8 n-gage cracked games which left me a total of 30mb free space that's when problem starts.
I've done several formats on my ngage and my MMC, formated my MMC to FAT and FAT32, no FAT16 option on windows XP. Also tried the MMCmedic but still didn't work.
Is this normal on n-gage? Where u can't install bunch of stuffs, or there's a problem on mu fone / MMC, I am thinking of purchasing 1gb mmc for my n-gage but if this would be the case then its no use.

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

btw, i've tried partition manager by 7tools, but it is only on demo, it could not save changes.

Uhmmmm...how do you reformat the phone??? I dunno..im very much a newbie with the N-Gage...and don't even know how to connect it to the PC yet especially without any apps to run it.

I appreciate any tips on this. Thanks!

Thanks! :)That certainly cleared up some things...although there are still no apps that got restored (MP3 player, Radio, Settings etc.) It did however recognize my one roaming SIM...i think it only works on AT&T Network...

Now if I could only figure out a way of reloading them apps...

hey tze'
u own a ngage ryt? did u encounter device start up fail problem once u've installed bunch of stuffs from ur mmc? this what happens on my fone whenever i install stuffs on the mmc, specifically when i install stuffs which automatically starts up upon booting of the fone.

the weird thing is, sometimes it boots up and sometimes it goes to that device start up thingy..weird! but when i remove the mmc its all fine, tried to format it several times (both fone and mmc) but the problem will start again when I put bunch of stuffs in there.

the device startup failed problem is because the name tables in the MBR corresponding to the files are corrupt...

the best solution is to MOVE not copy those files (the entire mmc) to your computer (otherwise delete them after copy) and then put them back in either using a card reader to do the whole job or ur ngage usb...

cheers ;)

will i have to format my mmc again after moving the files?

i didn't exatcly understand the part " name tables in the MBR corresponding...", what made the files to corrupt? I install files by trasferring .sis files on the mmc then opening the manager and installing them.

do my frequent removal of mmc might caused it? for example, i've installed taskman from my mmc,and other files which autostarts from reboot. There were times that i remove my mmc to transer files (my usb doesn't work, could not recognize my mmc) and at the same time power up my n-gage w/o any mmc, when I return back my mmc the start-up fail begins again.

Now if I could only figure out a way of reloading them apps...

just place them in root of mmc, E:, not in any folders and go manager to install.

@shadow i nv got that error b4 :-?

no you dont have to format the card again although its safer to do so...

and what I meant about MBR etc is that some programs on the ngage (and sometimes the usb) stuff up writing files correctly to the mmc...

Im not sure how to recreate the problem specifically....but it happens from time to time especially when renameing files and recording with the mp3player or radio...

cheers ;)

an easy way to check this is to run the mmc in a win98/ME system, do a scandisk and check the advanced option for 'Check Name' files...

you will see when it does a scandisk it will report certain filenames are corrupt and should it fix it..hence where the clue came about this problem

mind you only scandisk on win98/me can do it

i havent found scandisk can do it on XP although there could be a command for checking the intergrity of the filenames with the fat entry....anyone has it?

cheers ;)

Well, it's not a mystery anymore I've got a demo firmware version :(
It's running on just demo ver.3.03 (in case you dont know *#0000#).... :-x I should wring the neck of the guy or gal that sold this to me...but anyhoot...I guess half the fun (if it is possible) is to find a way to upgrade this to a newer version...or at least a working firmware one

...Anybody out there know how I could do this? (without sending it back to Nokia...) Or is this even possible?? (Please tell me it is....i dont want to wring necks) I'd be glad to pay for it if it could be done...(hey, wait a minute isn't this nokia free??? forum :-?

:P Thanks for all and any replies!

so this option is not open for xp? don't have win 98.
still getting the start-up fail problem a_dude, tried to move the files from my mmc to my pc via card reader and returned it back also via card reader, but upon opening the fone, the problem is still their, but my mmc can now be detected by the usb, i've used partition manager by 7tools, the funny thing is it made my 128mb mmc to 118mb..i lost 10mb.
anyway my problem on starting up is still their and i am getting tired of it, do you think it has got to do with my FW upgrade? or the apps that i installed on the mmc?
pls guys help me out...i am starting to loose ideas.

a_dude
17-09-2004, 08:34 AM
the reason you lost 10mb is beacuse you didnt delete the original partitions...thats why and its still the cause of those startup probs...(those faulty partitions are still there)

i bet you just made a fat16partition right?

cheers ;)

ps....at least it detects via USB ;) ur almost there ;)

shad0w
17-09-2004, 12:58 PM
i deleted them all..erm i think i did, coz when the 1st time i opened partition manager there was 1 primary and 4 partition which has a red indicator, i deleted all 4 except for the primary, this only gave me 1 primary part, which i formated.

how can i restore it back? when i format it, it only indicates 118mb. How can i totally fix the damn thing?

another thing i noticed on my mmc was it still reads 100mb free space, when the actual free space is only at 8mb, my ngage only detects space which where used whenever I installed it on the actual fone? but when i transfer folders via usb the space does not leesen-down.

u can get ur phone flashed / upgrade in nokia care centers or from the black markets.

i think upgrading your fone would not help in detecting the mmc, detection of mmc via the usb cable depends on the mmc itself, specifically your mmc must be in the active state (bootable) which i did on partition manager.
btw, my fw is already 4.03, i upgraded it when i f*cked up my fone.

anyway, my mmc problem was solved at last, this is what i did.
MMC not being recognized via usb cable.
--> click the link below and it will help u..thanks to a_dude

Device Memory Start-up Failed, Contact Retailer Problem
1) moved all of my files in my mmc to my pc via card reader
2) formated my fone using the mmcmedic by j2k
3) moved back the files from my pc to my mmc
that's it, no more problems! thanks again a_dude and ofcourse to j2k

Even with a demo firmware phone?? hmmmm, the phone seems to work nicely even without any apps...well, it's worth a try..speaking of which...how much do you think would it cost?? i hope not as much as buying a new celfone...and would you care to recommend any "black market" care centers? Preferably on the East Coast USA (Im not giving it to Nokia...they kinda insinuated that I'm " not supposed to have one of these...like duh! I'm from Joisy ok? and it fell off the truck

PM me  and make me an offer I can't refuse..hahaha :D

1. Backup all your data into your pc [copy all file/folder] it must be system, sounds, video, etc. use card reader to back up them all

2. backup your contacts. [remember all contacts will be erased from phone memory]

3. turn off your phone

4. remove mmc from your phone

5. turn on your phone, and write *#7370# u will ask about security number, default security number is 12345 press "yes"

6. your phone will restart "return to original settings"

7. fix your mmc card [use mmcmedic to repair 1000000% works,]

8. restore your data from pc to phone [just copy and paste] only sounds/video/image files like mp3, rm, 3gp, jpg, etc [dont include system folder cause your phone can be error when start up].

9. reinstall all your software on your phone [make sure install *.sis type except ngage full crack games]

10. now your phone will works like a new born baby.

note : mmcmedic can get from aivanet.com or go to their chat room at #aivanet on effnet. mmcmedic can works on windows 2000/XP only
i works repair mp3 player error, program start up error, software error. memory corrupted, etc. mmcmedic can only repair non physically damage.
