Quake on S60!!! Another dream came true!

Apperently this is know for a while now.

People »ARE« working on Quake for the s60 platform (probebly just 6600 & up + n-gage offcours)

It says 3650, 6600 and so on is supported on the site. But which levels you can run depends on how much memory u have etc. It uses the same format for maps, textures and so on that Quake 1/2 uses. However my brother who nows a lot about this stuff, said it's unlikely that Quake 2 maps could run on any symbian-phone. He also said that Doom 3 uses a similar standard. So in theory Doom 3 maps could run on a symbian device. But in reality it's impossible of course.

There's been a bunch of new features added as well as more speed optimizations
and better compression too.

Hopefully we'll be able to post some new screenshots in a week or so, but our
first priority is to get the damn thing out the
door... which I'm sure everyone will appreciate!

Also, it's taken a bit longer because we had trouble lining up beta testers --
almost everyone who signed up didn't fill out all the
information and that usually means that they won't make very good beta testers
and are just looking for free software.

Actually Sony Ericsson managed to do a little miracle by getting his e-mail answered from Bobbeetec.I mean,i (along with some friends) literally send dozens of e-mail during the past months but got zero -nil- replies.I really dropped any kind of hope in this game,but now the plot thickens and seems that someone is still working on it at Bobbeetec.Time will tell.Btw rather than new pictures kick in a playable demo,even with no sound or only with one level available but let our hands and eyes get over it!

Yeah, and this is the real Quake running on s60. But from what I've read it isn't running very fast, even without sound.

But I remember running Quake on a 33 mhz 486 when it first was released. It didn't run so well.. But I don't think a 104 mhz ARM-9 CPU is as powerful as a 100 mhz 486 DX4.

I read that the 6681 not only will not feature 3g support like the 6680 but it's gonna have the same arm core of the 7610 as well as running s60 7.0s!!!

6680 is 3G and it is based on 6630
6681/2 is 2G phone and its based on 7610(6670)

Damn You Nokia!So mainly the 6681 is a 7610 in another form factor...apart from the camera being updated to 1.3 Mpixs i don't see anything exciting in the horizon...

Hey Apocalypso,i guess that as a symbian addict you already known that the specifics & the features of the SGH-D720 are nothing short of brilliant (dual loudspeakers,64Mb of system RAM,and so on..).So,if this damn phone one day or another will surface i will grab it - instantly.If not i will still continue in waiting a powerful symbian device.I owned 12 Nokias and now i'm definitely tired of its marketing strategy.Never producing a really SMART phone but throwing out an avalanche of so-so phones that never have a full set of features (not to mention that thay change memory card standards every phone!).

I signed up along with dozens of my friends around Europe as betatesters but NONE of us received even an email of confirm or denial.I firmly believe that even if a half level beta was released it will INSTANTLY surface on mIRC or specialized wireless gaming sites,so along with the fact that the ufficial (?) site features no updates for months gives me the feeling that something is gone wrong,really wrong!
BTW,if someone got the patience to check the wireless section of ign.com will find some interesting news about a brand new Quake port by Bear Naked productions.

I try not 2b on the negative side of things. Quake or M.E.A.T. as it is called. Is 1 game that would be played 4a good while on my QD. K-Rally not sure how long i would be playing that on my QD. Finally we have a release date for "MEAT" or CYBOID as it is called now.

The news about "Quake for S60" was announced on Nokiafre 06-09-2004.
04-03-2005 the developers said the game would be released soon.

I, like most people had given up all hope of ever seeing this game. Still I thought I'd check Boobeetecs web. site And what did I see?? The site has changed and they say the game will be released on February 16 2006!!!

So the long wait is over..maybe. You never know with these developers. But was the game worth waiting for all this time? It still looks great, but we don't know what the framerate will be like. They have no movies on the site, but years ago they had clips from the GBA-version. It seemed to run pretty ok, even on that old obsolete device.

But the game has only a couple of levels, 3 weapons and the same amount of enemies. It only runs on Nokia 3650, Nokia 7650 and Nokia N-Gage. So you who sold your N-gages will be sorry. ;)
