Nokia 5170 IMEI

Hi all, new to this forum. Just picked up a brand new Nokia 5170 cellphone, as far as I can tell it has never been locked to any network. When I type *#06# into it nothing happens! how do I find out the IMEI number?? so I can unlock it or does it not need unlocking as it hasn't been locked to a service provider? Can anyone give me some pointers??

strange you did not get any IMEI when typing *#06# on a new phone.

the imei is also written inside your phone under the battery or something like that.

but the best you have to do is trying different operator SIM's, you will see if it is unlocked.

All that is written on the back is the ESN, there is no other number long enough to be the IMEI, one other guy suggested it migth be the ESN mixed in with the model number but that sounds like a really bad guess. Do all phones have an IMEI?? This phone can be activated on the Telus network here in Canada, on their CDMA1900 network only. Anyone have any ideas as to where I can get the IMIE number from off this phone??
