View Full Version : Where can I obtain a new memory battery for my Nokia?
Hi, I need to obtain a new memory backup battery (the tiny 'watch' battery that is fitted to the main PCB). It is approximately 7mm diameter x 2.5mm thick.
Ordinarily, I would simply go to a jewellers shop and buy one, but it seems that Nokia, in their infinite wisdom, designed theirs so that there are sintered contact plates as part of the battery package.
Can anyone please tell me where I can obtain a genuine replacement? (and please don't tell me to take the phone to a Nokia dealer and have him/her do it - I don't need to pay a dealer to do something I am quite capable of doing, myself, for a mere fraction of the cost!). I am also not willing to replace the complete LCD just in order to acquire a new battery, in so doing.
The Nokia in question is a 6310i. I did find this link:
h**p://www.nowgsm.com/backup_battery.htm
but it appears to be unsuitable for my 6310i.
A UK supplier would also be preferable, although this is not critical.
I can provide a photograph of the battery, if necessary.
Thanks for any assistance.
Regards,
Zeus.

Hi
Electronics...
the battery is on the LCD sheet ..... not on the PCB.. it wil be near the Zero key if i remember correctly...

Dude the only way to do this is buy a battery and then do the soldering yourself...you do not get the soldered set seperately outside..you could always take it some local guy near your place i guess...
Of course if u get a broken display somewhere you could always peel teh battery off that and use that battery i guess...

Hi Kiran,
I was tryng to find the batery, i look in all board and nothing...thanks kiran. :))
Zeus, you can get a new complete set of lcd and this already cames with the batery or you can get one demage set and just remove the batery or change the lcd with yours... if you want i can send you this but will take some time becouse i will send you by normal post. DHL is very expensive just to send you one complete lcd :-(
Thanks to both of you for your responses.
I did, of course, inaccurately refer to the PCB, and not the LCD package, even though I knew that the battery was actually on the LCD package - apologies for that, I was not specific enough! That will teach me to think more clearly while typing my posts...
I think I may well have to do the job manually, with a standard watch battery. I'm quite capable of soldering - it's just that I'm a little wary of overheating the battery anode during the soldering procedure, that's all. I guess I'll have to carefully use a metal vice to reduce the amount of heat damage, during soldering (obviously, taking care not to short-circuit the battery).
Thanks for the offer of sending me one, G.Electronics, that is very kind of you, but I would not trouble you for that because A) it is not fair on you, and B) I need to find a long-term solution because I own 4 of these phones and intend to keep them in service for at least another 2-3years, because, IMHO, they are STILL superior to any of Nokia's other phones (yes, even the 6230 and the 7610, and I've owned both these newer models and taken each of them back to the dealer to cancel the contracts and get a refund on the handsets!). The 6310i may not be glamourous, and may lack some of the fancy features of newer models (I must admit, I do like keyguard pin security), but it is VERY well made, the battery life is outstanding, the menu structure and keys allow extremely rapid and RELIABLE function execution, and the whole phone just works beautifully.
Thanks again to both of you for your input, I'll let you know how I get on with the soldering etc.
Zeus.
P.S. if anyone else knows of a supplier, like the link in my original post, that can supply original Nokia Service spare batteries (but ones that suit a 6310i), with the terminals pre-sintered to the package, then please do let me know, even if I have already solved ths issue in the meantime, by manually soldering terminals to a standard watch battery. Cheers!
Oh, and one last thing - does anyone know where I can get hold of a service manual for the 6310/6310i? I have the basic level 2 one, but can't find anything higher (I really have searched, but all links seem to be dead). Thanks. NokiaFree.org is a fantastic community!
