Nokia 7600 FAQ by petrosg

Since I've seen people asking the same questions over and over again here's some Frequently Asked Questions and their answers for the Nokia 7600.

1) Can i unlock my Nokia 7600 from 3G to 2G?
Yes, download the nokiaFREE calculator, type your IMEI in use Hutchingson 3G(3) and box serial as 32779. ( for more info try cprafferty's guide (http://nokiafree.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=11989 )

2) I unlocked it but my 2G sim card has no signal?
This problem sometimes occurs although it never happened when i unlocked mine, download cprafferty's guide ( http://nokiafree.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=11989 ) and follow the instructions on changing the settings so it connects to 2G and not 3G

3) I've tried so many times to unlock my phone but i can't :-? help!
You only get 5 tries to unlock it using codes so i recommend that you try a maximum of 4 tries with codes and if you still have a problem ask around on the forums. After your 5 tries you can only unlock using cable solution which can cost around £10, search on the forums using the search button for more information and help.

4) Where and what is this wallet feature used for?
It is in Menu – Organiser – Wallet OR Menu -10 - 4
It enables users to make convenient mobile transactions via WAP browsers. The application is capable of storing protected personal information, such as notes and virtual cards, inside the terminal. It simplifies storage and retrieval of personal information in mobile transactions making it possible to provide and use virtual cards flexibly.

5) I forgot my wallet code, how do i reset it?
When the phone is on and in standby mode type *#7370925538# and it will ask for a security code which should be 12345 unless you've changed it and then you will be able to set a new wallet code by going back to the wallet in the organiser
NOTE: All the information in the wallet will be lost when resting the code.

6) How do i change all the GPRS and MMS settings from 3 to o2?
Visit this thread and read what gazdilla wrote: http://nokiafree.org/forums/t61447/h/s.html , change all the information that needs changing and it should work :) since it worked nicely for me :D

7) How do I use Infrared?
For Infrared you will need to simply go to Menu – Connectivity – Infrared and it will automatically start infrared, you then need to make sure the Port is facing the other port so it can communicate, on windows XP you should automatically see an icon and it sais click here to send files to the Nokia 7600 using infrared and you do the ovious. I'm not sure how to get it working on Linux but I will try and find out or if someone knows post her or email me or pm me whateva.

8 ) Why can I not get Nokia PC suite working on my phone?!
There seems to be a problem with Nokia PC suite if you are using firmware version 4.05 (type *#0000# onto your keypad). If you downloaded Nokia PC suite and tried to access the phones A drive from the phone browser tool you will encounter problems. Not sure if there is a new firmware release on this yet. If anyone knows pm me, email me or post of this thread.
Thanks

Great guide thank you. This worked for me using the unlock calculator and changing the code to 32779 in expert mode.
Thanks again, saved me £15!

Video calling is not compatible with the 7600. Upgrading your firmware version can be done by flashing. Also I do not think upgrading the memory is possible.

The unlocking code calculator referred to in cprafferty's PDF appears now to be unavailable and requires payment for the codes.

Anyone know where it can be found?

download the free Nfree calc from the downloads section of the forum or do a search for the " Crux Calc"

I have now personally tested doing a full factory reset on these with Fbus software by maestro and a SERIAL fbus data cable (not the usb one that comes with the phone !!) and it does restore the hidden menu option to permanently switch to 2g (gsm) stopping the dropped signal problem . You do not lose any stored pictures, videos etc !

you need to partial dismantle the phone to connect the fbus lead, remove the side panels, then the battery cover, then you need to remove the cover on the back that goes round the camera lens. to do this just gently lift the end nearest the battery with your finger nail and it will lift up then pop the rest up (it is held in place with some double sided tape ..lol) .

now plug in your lead and start the fbus software (you will need userport software for Windows Xp I believe) and hit "full Factory Reset" and the bottom of the software will show "done". The phone does not reboot or anything but when you go through the menus the hidden option is back !!

Thanks for this help guys, but I don't understand one bit.

Griffin (new) and box serial 32779 don't seem to go together.

I'm using NokiaFREE 3.10; a box serial of 32779 comes up with 'original' and 'Griffin New' gives a box serial of 34144.

I've selected 'Nokia', '7600 (NMM-3)', 'Hutchison 3G(3)', MCC+MNC '23420000' and Asic 7.

I've put a 15 digit IMEI in the IMEI box, which repeatd the last digit for me in the end box.

What don't I understand?

What I didn't understand was to search the forum properly before troubling those with better things to do than help the, quite frankly, pretty dim.

I found that people used the settings as at the top of this, including the code 32779 but 'Original' not 'griffin new'.

Just make sure when the code is calculated that the serial at the bottom is 32779. If so it will work 100%.

I am trying to unlock my phone using NokiaFree v3.10

I'm pretty sure i'm using the right settings as well.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong?

Settings being used:

Nokia 7600
Hutchison 3G (3)
MCC+MNC: 23420000
Asic 7
Original 32779

The code i get is #pw+957 762 174 404 257+7#

if it is on 3pay and from the carphone warehouse recently then that is correct, if it is an earlier phone then the setting for box serail should be 33820

if it is a contract phone from 3 then the setting needs to be ASIC 6 (32821)for the box serial

the code you posted is no good without the imei number anyway..

Rozza-C
17-12-2004, 09:01 PM
the IMEI number is 351547001292007

and it is on 3pay not from carphone warehouse

and if i enter the wrong code 5 times..will the phone become unoperational or what?

browntoa
17-12-2004, 09:05 PM
the code you generated was correct, try the second setting I gave you if it is on 3Pay

if the code is wrong you are getting "code error" if the 5 tries are used up you will get "cannot undo restriction"

I have unlocked loads of these and one of the 3 box serials on my last post has Always unlocked them

Rozza-C
17-12-2004, 09:11 PM
so if i get 'cannot undo restriction' then can it be re-enabled again? or will i have to take it to a specialist to unlock it? because i am on my last chance and i dont want to risk locking the phone

browntoa

if you use up your last try it can be unlock directly, should cost you about £10

you can get the full factory reset done at the same time to give you back the menu option to lokc the phone to GSM/2g

no harm in using up your last try

Am attempting to unlock a contract 3 7600. Tried using code 7 generated using box serial 32779. Code didn't work. may have entered it wrongly. Would be trying 32821 serial on the phone later. Any suggestions as to rule of thumb on using the correct box serial?

browntoa

the correct box serail is the one called ASIC 6, think it is 32821 yes , 32779 is for the payg ones

use code 7

Try converting to AMR files as this compacts the size however it does decrease the quality.
