First post...yeah!! :-D

I just got a temp-to-hire job in San Diego with a cell phone reseller. My boss wants me to set up a repair lab from scratch. Problem is... I don't have any repair tools (software or hardware.) I am an uber-newbie, and have searched the net for the past few days to try and learn as much as I can, but now I am facing a deadline and need some help.

My boss wants me to update Sprint PRL for two hundred CDMA Nokia 3585i (they have the Sprint logo on them). I am guessing I need a data cable, PRL editor software, and Sprint PRL flash file. Is this enough? The phones are brand new so I don't think I need to worry about unlocking. How do I get the necessary software? I don't want to try eDonkey because of spyware infections, and don't want to buy software from a foreign website (too sketchy)

I noticed in the these forums that people only want to exchange software...but I don't have any software to exchange...nothing...zip...nada! Any advice on a good website to buy hardware (cables, etc.)...and how to get free software from these forums?

You will be building good karma by helping me (and I want to impress my boss so he will hire me as a permanent employee!)

Thanks

Nokia ... your boss give you a difficult job for a beginner, anyway the easiest way to do it is using OTA programming since they are Sprint phones; and by the way the phones are locked, to use cable/soft you going to need the SPC of each phone.

Unfortunately the phones have no loaded PRL. So OTA won't work. Anyway, my boss does not want me to go to a Sprint store or use OTA. He wants me to show him I can use cables and manually update firmware, PRL, etc.

I should not have said "I just got a temp-to-hire job in San Diego with a cell phone RESELLER"

More accurately, I work for a "cell phone WHOLESALE DISTRIBUTOR."

We don't deal with customers, activations, etc.

My boss buys bunches of phones (some new, some refurbished, some broken) and sells them in bulk to other companies around the globe. My job is to set up a repair lab from scratch so I can repair, flash, or program the phones before we sell them.

He has about two hundred Nokia 3585i which came from Nokia programmed for RelTel (Reliance Telecom) in Nigeria. He wanted me to clear out the settings (that was easy to do...I just reset factory defaults and it erased the "RelTel" banner)

Now he wants me to make the phones so they "wake up" to Sprint (so they have the appearance and software of a phone that came right off the assembly line and programmed for use on Sprint.) The phones are brand new CDMA so SPC of "12345" works. I don't think I need unlocking software.

My boss wants a self-sufficient repair lab in-house. I need to teach myself what equipment/software I need to accomplish this. Do I need to be a Sprint certified tech in order to get access to the PRL equipment/software?

Thanks luzer and anyone else who replies
