Car stereo codes

I know its way off topic of the forum, but does anyone know a way of calculating radio codes, with or without leads?
I am looking to invest in some equipment but want to know the ins and outs first.

Have a look around this site, I know I've seen a couple of code generators on this site for car stereos. You might have to join the yahoo group or something though.
