Hi

I recently bought a usb data cable for my 3315 but I can't get my PC to recognise the phone when I connect them.

I installed the pl2303 cable driver. The cable, when plugged in, is recognised by Windows XP (SP2) as "Prolific USB-to-serial Comm Port (COM3)" which is fine. The problem is that when using programs such as Gammu, Gnokii, or Oxygen (all configured to look at COM3), they can't see the phone.

I tried it with a 3310 but this doesn't work either. Anyone had any experience dealing with a usb cable like this? Cheers

I know Xp is a bit funny with com ports, they is a program called "userport" which will force the com port to work the right way.If you do a search on the forum I have attached it to another post on here

I did a search for userport but I am a bit reluctant to change sys files etc so I tried the phone cable on my windows 98 machine.

Same result though, no luck. I am beginning to wonder if this USB cable is the real deal.

Maybe I should just get a serial cable because they're the norm for this type of thing, right?

yes a serial fbus/mbus cable does most things
